Locked youbike in youbike rack?

Hello, university student studying in Taiwan here

Usually I would often rent the youbikes near my campus cafeteria but oftentimes there isn’t any more youbikes which is fair. But recently i have been seeing youbikes in racks with the lock in them (the built in cable lock). And it says that you need a certain person’s IC card to do this. This started happening since last week sometimes one, sometimes 3.

Is this people being selfish hogging youbikes or just a mistake? And if it’s selfish people are there any way to report them? It’s annoying getting my hopes up only to find out it’s locked. Thanks!

By rack do you mean the youbike parking space or a separate bike rack?

Everyone can lock a Ubike. You then need to use the same IC card to unlock the bike. However, you still need to keep paying for the bike while you have locked it! So those Ubikes are being rented out and paid for.

If it is actually locked, they should still be paying for it, so not exactly selfish. If it were outside of the YouBike rack it wouldn’t even be a question

Have you tried to pull out the lock? Maybe people are putting the bikes back to stop paying, but just making it look like they are locked?

Yep, no pulling the bikes out, what annoys me is they put the locked bike IN the bike rack instead of just nearby

In the rack, so basically double locked, one a personal lock and another the bike to rack lock

I’ve been using youbikes for years and have never seen this. What probably happened was someone rode their bike to that youbike station, there were no available spots and since they were probably in a rush, they just locked their bike and once some spots became available, a “Good Samaritan” then popped the bike into one of the available stations. I’ve done this with unlocked bikes left at stations.
