Looking for an office in Kaohsiung

I’m looking to rent a small office In Kaohsiung.
just for one person but will need fast internet as I will be working with overseas clients remotely.
A serviced office would be good as long as not to expensive.

The only ones I can find online are the hotdesk type, these are not suitable as I will need to leave stuff in the office.

I’m currently in the uk and moving to Taiwan permanently as of next week. this is a change to my original plans hence a little sort notice, but need to be in the office and running for start of play uk time on the 26th (that first day will be a late one to set up the connections but after that will be more normal times)

The area around the airport would be ideal but anywhere on that side of the MTR line would be ok.

I don’t know about Kaohsiung, but Taipei has lots of coworking spaces. Some are just basic with a table and wifi, and others have modern computer setups and office space and Ethernet and mail services and all kinds of things. Some can rent a desk or an office.

If you Google “coworking space” in Google Maps, some should show up and then you can see their locations and websites for further information.

Can also search business centers and virtual offices for use and rent.

Thank you @tango42
i have already done a google search in english and the 3 that keep coming up are not.
either in the wrong part of the city, wrong opening times or just a desk in a shared office.

Also looking more for 6 month contract even 12 if necessary, i have my own computer as i need specialist software to do my job (desk top so i can’t cary around with me)

My Chinese is not good enough yet to search online with out being pointed in the right direction, and my wife is Taiwan side already and is already sorting out way to much, so i just thought i would do my bit.

and when i say do my bit i mean asking other people to help me out instead of her

So can’t you just set up a home office and work from there if you’re going to be living here? That’s what I do.

I have a thing about working from home, I like to keep work and home life separate. when I have had a home office in the past, I tended to work to much and have been known to wake up in the middle of the night to work on a project more than once.

Reading that back I feel like I should go to therapy
“hello my name is Shaun and i’m a workaholic”

I can understand that. It can be tough to keep things separate. I find that since I work on a computer and it’s always just sitting there, it can be tough to just relax.

My main contract (I’m an editor) has an hourly limit so I can’t work over that if I want to get paid. Of course, the hourly limit is 40 hours a week so when other clients show up I end up working closer to 50 or more a week.

just trying to my way around 591.com.tm
just can’t seam to find anything in the area i want

I googled “Kaohsiung virtual office space”.
A bunch of english ones showed up.
This showed up for NT$12,000 per person per month.

Furnished offices 24-hour security Kitchen Administrative support Voice mail Broadband Internet Lounge area Air-conditioning WC (separate male/female) Copying facilities Meeting rooms Lift Reception services Cat 6 cabling or better City/town centre 24-hour access IT support Cleaning/janitor VOIP Phone System Hot desking

If those don’t work, you just gotta keep plugging in words into google to get result.
There’s an acronym for what you are looking for, but my brain is fried at the moment.

thanks @CTaitung this is one that keeps popping up,

i’m not into the hot desk thing as i need a permanent work space and some where i can close the door and focus on a screen to analyse technical drawings and or analyse production samples cross referencing the two.
i will also be setting up layouts and artwork for print and remotely administering the software to run the print presses. In sort i and up with a lot of stuff i can’t carry around.

Maybe i should have give a bit more of an outline in my main post but it was around 4 in the morning uk time and i was posting it from my phone.

I could really do with being in the Siaogang where i would have access to the docks and airport, also a lot of the industrial manufacture is down that side of town which is more relevant to what i do.

the problem i’m getting is i keep getting these shiny business offices which are dressed to impress, in reality what i need is more like this

thanks again for all your help

Edit
i can cope with the pollution but would need aircon and natural light,
an interesting view would be an advantage.
maybe i should just be looking for a portacabin on a beach

Totally understand. You know what’s best for your work environment.
In that case, I think you can go with others’ recommendation to just land in KHH, set up your temp office in your own apartment (I presume you have an apartment in KHH already) and then the first week go to 小港 area, walk around, and start seeing if there are small apartments to rent. I remember years ago when I had to set up an office for about 4-5 people, that we just rented an apartment, got some desks, and hooked up with Chunghwa Telecom for Internet, etc. Even walking into those real estate offices may help, as sometimes landlords lease their space through Sinyi Real Estate, Yung Ching, etc. Doing this on the ground may even set you up with an office with a beetching view or something, which you wouldn’t get by contacting them from overseas. Plus, probably a LOT cheaper on the monthly rent (especially if you are getting a stipend from firm and can pocket the difference).
:2cents:

unfortunately my contract is for remote working only so set up expenses come out of my pocket, but when i’m not working for them i’m free to work on my own projects.

as far as my employers are concerned i could sit on a beach in my underwear along as i have internet access so i can do my job :beach_umbrella:

You are making many people here jealous of your allowable work environment.

I concur with the others.
Plant your feet into Kaohsiung and look around the 1st week for that sweet office space. You don’t even have to have the space denoted as for industry use. Can just rent any old small apartment in the city.
Rent is cheap here.

Whereabout is your permanent living abode in the city?

the family home is in the south of the city but we also have a couple of family places in the Pingtung near Kenting which i love to visit but not good for perminnt living as they are very rural.
we will be staying with them for a month or so, to get everything sorted and we will rent an apartment depending on which job my wife takes this will determine the area.
(there is a house for sale down the road from them and mother in law keeps showing it to me the wife just keeps laughing)

my main problem is i need to start working on the 26th and as you can see not much time to get sorted.

I have or my Taiwanese wife has rented apartments nearly on the same day as we’ve found them. So, if you are in Kaohsiung next week, you still have a whole week to get set up and running on the 26th.
You can always get a 1-month unlimited data 4G SIM card to start off with if Chunghwa Telecom takes a bit longer to set up the hardline for ADSL, etc.

i considered a 4G sim but the files i will be moving around are sometimes upwards of 10gb even with data compression. most files are around 1 to 2gb but can work on 3 or 4 of them a day.

i can find some workarounds short term to lower the file sizes or remote in to one of the company computers and do the processing in the uk but this is a clunky way of working.

im not normally this unorganised but this situation has only developed over the last week as i outlined in another thread giving my :2cents: to some one else

Hey Shaun,
This might be a pretty late call as I just found your concern of office searching in KHH. I am the staff of the Dao Teng International Business Center. If you still searching for the small office, you may give us a chance to check our center at #251 MingChuan 1st rd. If you already found your ideal office, congratulation!
Hope this helps you. Have a great night.

It’s nice place, and nice staff/mgnt that speaks very good English (Taiwanese, but good USA education). I would recommend this place (and come have coffee with us/ our office is in the same near area). They have one desk rooms that you can lock up, while have benefits of the services they offer. It’s about 5 min walk to MRT, lots of buses on WuFU road, public car park across the road (not so cheap though). I know this since some major international companies use the space and I visited.

@DKaoshuing Wow, we are appreciated and thank you so much for your wonderful comment. You are always welcomed to visit us again. Of course, we will serve you good coffee and beverages.

thank you @Samkuo and @DKaoshuing for your recommendations, this was one of the places I looked at. I can’t remember the reasons I decided against the place, but I eventually rented space in a studio near Pier2 with 3 other designers / artist. It fits in well with my needs as I work early and open up the rest come in later, its my own space that I can customize however I need with quite a large floor space to myself.
I have a few people to interact with to stop me going stair crazy, but not to many that it becomes a distraction.
