I am currently teaching in Taiwan and I like my current school, but I would like to add some extra hours to my teaching schedule. Those could be both 1 to 1 tutoring or classroom environment.
I am looking for both fixed classes and occasional substituting hours that may be needed.
I have a bachelor’s degree and a open work permit and I have worked in Taiwan teaching English for about three years now.
If you have any openings or you know how to find those who have, I would really apreciate your help.
I can’t specifically help you, but in general you need to be a bit clearer about where you are prepared to work. Also, with open work rights you might want to consider other employment options such as examining. Facebook groups seem to be good for teaching gigs.
I’ll add some advice. I really don’t think this is a good forum for finding work. 1) We are too decentralized, spread out over the island. 2) We are mostly forum regulars already working at a job, and most of us are employees of schools rather than employers. There are a couple independent buxiban owners, but not many. 3) Like I said, most of the traffic is from us stale and crusty forum regulars. You need a place where a decent amount of casual traffic passes through, and a healthy mix of both westerners and Taiwanese (we’re mostly just westerners).
Echoing what @BiggusDickus said, I’d strongly suggest going on Facebook and joining a group for teachers in your city. For example, when I was looking for work a few years ago I joined “Kaohsiung English Teachers” and found some solid temp work in between jobs (and a few offers of permanent positions which I turned down). You can try looking for work here, but personally I think you’ll be wasting your time.
I am curious about the examining thing. I hink I’ve seen one job posting about it. Basically they recruit people to perform the oral examination part of English exams, or is that something else?
Yeah, I am already looking on facebook, Im just curious if there’s some trick or tip Im missing, becase I mostly see job postings for full time positions.
I did find a group specifically for temp and sub work, with some postings. Let’s see how that one goes.
There are many organizations looking for examiners now. Mainly online. CYL, IELTS, OUP are the better ones IMO. There are some dodgy outfits as well. Universities increasingly turn a blind eye as they’re desperate for bums on seats. Some of them accept Duolingo lol.
Don’t just look for job advertisements. POST yourself that you’re looking for temp work. As long as you don’t have 3 eyes in your profile picture and have at least a somewhat respectable CV, someone will PM you for temp work or tutoring gigs at least. At least in my experience.
