Filmed in 1966 by famous director Lîm Hok-tē (林福地), who is well known by his TV drama Star Knows My Heart (星星知我星). Due to KMT’s anti-Taigi policies, Lîm collaborated with a Japanese production company and that was how the two movies became rare Taigi movies shot on color film.
Taigi movie stars Iông Bîng (陽明) and Tiunn Tshing-tshing (張清清) traveled with the director to Okinawa and filmed two movies, Liû-khiû tsi Luân (琉球之戀) and Si̍k-iông Se-hā (夕陽西下), as well as a Japanese movie by the Japanese director Saijo Fumiyoshi, in 3 months. The two Taigi films were also dubbed in Mandarin and Japanese.
After their run in the theaters, all the Taigi films were poorly stored and were damaged beyond repair, leaving only the Mandarin dub. However, in 2019, the Four Star theater in San Francisco’s China Town contacted Taiwan Film and Audiovisual Institute, informing them that while clearing out the theater demolition, they’ve discovered old films from the 60s in storage. The original Taigi versions of these movies were finally recovered.
Since the films were shot before 1992, it actually has extensive footage of Shuri Castle in its original post-war condition, prior to the first reconstruction effort.
