guys, be in no illusion, a car driver cruising with the stereo blasting will NOT hear a bike, regardless of tuned pipes (unless so insanely loud that the rider would themselves be deafened) - it’s a fake argument but nevertheless a popular slogan on biker t-shirts

Only if everyone drives with the stereo blasting. Assuming most people don’t, the argument holds up just fine
Edit: I’ll also add, here in Taiwan there are a number of pedestrians with low spatial awareness who may be on their phones or otherwise walk into traffic. Having more volume is safer for them, too. Ok, if everyone is walking with headphones and loud music they won’t hear either.
But if a car that I am right beside can’t hear me, then neither can someone blasting the music in their apartment, so nothing to worry about
