There was a stray near my house. And I loved it. I told it so regularly…it was the best tempered dog you’ve ever seen. And so amazingly intelligent…one time I told it to “stay” and it sat in one spot while I went to 7-11 (out of sight) and was still there when I came back.
It’s been gone for days now and I’ve been asking around…and no one’s seen it.
One of a few things could have happened:
A family took it in. This is likely as it was very friendly and a good looking dog. But I think it had a great life living in my park and being fed by me and cared for by me. So this option still makes me sad.
It was picked up by the “pound”. People tell me this is unlikely…but most of the strays around here have collars from either myself or some of the other local dog lovers who collar them all. This dog had one…but it fell off and I didn’t get around to giving it a new one yet.
It was killed by a car. This option…believe it or not…is one of the better ones. I think it lived a great life in the park…I’d hate to think of it’s spirit being crushed in some metal cage.
It’s waiting to be eaten. You might roll your eyes at that one. But it’s a black healthy dog…and there is a restaraunt directly beside my park that serves dog. I was standing beside it looking up at the roof that they keep the dogs on…and calling the stray’s name…some dogs barked in answer…but I’m unable to recognize it’s bark.
Does anyone know who to call or how to go check the dogs this restaraunt serves? I’d hate to think it’s up there in their mock kennel…waiting to be eaten.

Yes, there are many in Taiwan still. It’s illegal…but they still exist. One expression is “Weird goat head sells dog meat” refering to if the shop has a picture of a goat’s head that looks odd…that’s how they let people know you can buy dog there. Dog meat is refered to as…umm…I don’t know how to write in pin-yin or anything…umm…kinda like “Shee-ang row” which means “fragrant meat”.

That’s what I’m asking here. I’m expecting Stray Dog or someone like that to come in here asking for an addresse and for police to show up and save my dog. And that way everyone can live happily ever after.
I also want other readers on here to realize that the strays you feed…and love…might one day disappear and meet with a cruel and unusual demise…so if you do care for them…then take them in.

I’m certain about the restaraunt. I’ve been told by a half a dozen people including taxi drivers that they are well known for their dog. But unless you bring police or a TV crew…I don’t know how much good we can do.
There is also a lovely dog that already has a home…but it has a crushed foot…crushed like a pancake. And it’s losing hair around it’s face. Lovely dog though…very friendly and it has it’s own dog house in front of an old person’s home. But for some reason they don’t give it any medical attention. OH…and there is a dog…with what I think is an elastic band…or a string around it’s neck…it doesn’t seem in pain though.
I can find those two dogs easy enough as they are always in the same spots.

I don’t have any volunteers to help me tomorrow, so it may be afternoon.
We’ll check it out, and then I’ll speak to our FTV animal-friendly reporter friend; anyone know to which authority one should report a dog-meat restaurant?
Unfortunately it’s just a 2,000 - 10,000 dollar fine.
I think the Apple Daily would bring a lot of noise to this story, to be honest. It’s pretty much the only thing you can do to really punish the offenders.

The fine is a daily thing, so if they’re caught 2 days in a row, they’re fined twice, 3 days… thrice… and so on…

I understand your frustration Mordeth, but the reasons are simple:
i work from 8 till 8 and do not want to have a dog being alone all day on an appatment.
Contracts says ; no animals allowed, or breach of contract with penalty
I had 2 cats before in the old house untill I had to move out and had to find a house for them.
meanwhile 1 died. Poisened.
having a pet in taiwan ? no thanks, but I do miss their company.
Mordeath, you live near a restaurant that sells dog meat, but why didn’t you try to bust those guys’ asses sooner? If I know of a place like that, I’ll make them sorry to live!
Out of sight out of mind I guess. If I saw someone hurting an animal…I’d act. But just knowing that it goes on somewhere isn’t enough. When I was young I had a friend that was getting raped by her step-dad…same kinda thing. There’s horrible shit that happens on practically every street of every neighborhood…I can’t exactly run around kicking in doors.
I can’t get there - too busy here. You need to go there and tell them that you think your dog is on their roof. Take a look and get her out. If you are certain it is a dog-meat restaurant when you take a look, we’ll report it.
You want me to knock on someone’s door…then ask to walk THROUGH their home…up onto their roof…to examine the dogs in their ILLEGAL dog meat buisness…etc. How about I just get my girlfriend to slam a door in my face…and save myself the time of going over there?
They aren’t going to let me walk into their home…I’ve had people ask to use my homes stairs…I don’t let them either.
About the only idea I have is sending my good looking girlfriend…they might let her up since she’s an attractive non-intimidating girl. But I don’t know if she’d recognize the dog.

You have got nothing to lose, and lots to gain by doing this…if it’s not too late already.
I would go up there and explain that you believe they are selling dog meat and you believe they might have ‘accidentally’ got your dog and you would like him back.
That might be enough for them to let you get him back.
If not, then you can suggest that what they are doing is illegal and if they don’t help you out they will have the media and police to deal with very soon.
If it was my dog, I would have done this ASAP, as time is of the essence really.
Sounds like a covert op. Get your girl to create a distraction while you sneak up the stairs… Seriously though, you could sneak up there. Once you come down it’s not important who sees you. Go for it man. You know you want to.
