Luck of the Irish

This has to be one of the most stunning results I’ve seen in world cricket.

Ireland 133-7 beat Pakistan 132 by three wickets.

No luck involved in this one - Ireland (mainly made up of part-timers) held their catches and Niall O’Brien both took two of those catches as wicketkeeper and hit 72 off 106 balls to send Pakistan (ranked 4th in 1-day cricket) out of the tournament. Andre Botha bowled 2-5 off eight overs for the boys in green and an attack that had been derided prior to the tournament performed well on a pretty green pitch.

And all this on St Patrick’s Day - congratulations to the Paddys!

I followed the game last night on the internet (cricinfo.com); a wonderful result for both Ireland and cricket. Amazingly, there was another big upset unfolding at the same time, with Bangladesh beating India. Rock on the underdogs!!!

It even got us lunatic N Irish to calm down. Observe Ian/Martin prancing around with bats - and no blood!!
