Luggage zipper repair

Please help if u can…

I’ll go back to the USA for Chinese New Year and as I started sorting through my stuff, I noticed the zipper on my otherwise nice suitcase is broken.

Anyone know anywhere in Taipei where I could get it fixed? At a fair price - even better!

Thanks!

Any place that sells luggage will fix it for you…but you most likely will need to leave it with them for a few days…my luggage is repaired by a store close to the intersection of zhongxiao/dunhua…do you know that complex in which the Haagen-Daz ice cream parlour is located? The luggage place I go to is in the basement…it cost me 100NT to replace/fix the zipper…

There’s a place referred to in The Knowledge for zipper repairs, but I’m not sure of the precise location:

Does anyone know if that’s Zongxiao Fuxing and Dunhua? It’s also worth noting that not every place which sells luggage will fix it for you. I went across the road today to our local luggage place, which actually has a sign on it saying they repair luggage, and when I presented a small bag to them with a broken zipper, they told me they couldn’t fix it.

Erm no! Fuxing is a different road. If you start at Zhongxiao Fuxing and walk down Zhongxiao with Sogo on your right there is a huge cross roads, which is Zhongxiao Dunhua. Alternatively you could take the subway as there is a stop there (blue line). Hope this helps?

Ah, Zhongxiao Dunhua, how silly of me, that makes sense. So that would be the Zhongxiao Fuxing MRT station, which would get me to the intersection of Fuxing and Dunhua. Thanks, I’ll have a look.

Huh? Don’t you want to go to Zhongxiao Dunhua MRT station? At the intersection of Zhongxhiao and Dunhua…

Zhongxiao Dunhua is the station before/after Zhongxiao Fuxing, depending on where you’re coming from…

I was thinking of the wrong Sogo.

I went to Zhongixao Dunhua station. Found the intersection, looked around and couldn’t see anywhere you could go downstairs, on any of the corners. Walked down the road, found a Haagen-Daas, but there wasn’t anywhere you could go downstairs there either.

Nearby there was Exit 12 of the Metro Mall, and I thought that’s what was probably meant, so I went down there. Half an hour of walking up and down the Metro Mall convinced me that it’s not down there either.

I wonder where it is?

What exactly is wrong with your zipper?
If its something small, it can probably be fixed easily with a pair of pliers?

Most clothes repair shops will also fix/repair zippers.

Supposedly there’s some old guy who fixes stuff between#148 and #150 on Dingzhou st. Sec.3
汀洲路三段148號和150號之間

Or take it back to where ever you bought the bag.

There are a couple of problems with the zipper. One is that the stitching has become detached in a couple of places. Another is that both zipper guides have come away from one of the zipper lines. The bag was bought in Australia, so returning it is not an option.

If I knew what a clothes repair shop looked like, I would take it there. I might try a dry cleaner’s.

My trusty carry-on’s zipper is stuck. Most seamstress have told me that they do not fix this kind of thing,a sthey do not have teh equipment to do so properly.

Does anyone know if there is any place on the south side of teh city where luggage is repaired, too? Has anyone taken their stuff to this repair place -basement, I can’t find it either- recently?

Does anyone know where I can have the zipper for an odd-shaped luggage replaced? It’s not an ordinary luggage, but a huge bike box for travelling with my bicycle. the zip has split open and I don’t want to throw it away.

Thanks very much.

1.) Try asking around in the Yongle Market on Dihua Street. Not the fabric market in the big oblong building but the first floor market in the brick building. Someone there, assuming you speak Chinese/Taiwanese, can probably direct you to someone in that area who can fix it. You can get ANYTHING fixed around there.

2.) I know a guy who does clasps, latches, hooks, strap rings etc. but don’t know if he does zippers. He fixed the clasp on my purse and is worth a try, even if to ask if he knows someone. He’s on Chang’an Road, not far from Dihua Street. Go to Yanping-Chang’an (walkable from Taipei Main or Zhongshan) and just a little bit east on Chang’an, on the northern side, next to MOS Burger, is a shop full of metal parts and bits and bobs, and an old guy with tools. See what he can do for you. He doesn’t speak English.

Thanks very much. My bike box is huge and odd shaped, so normal zipper repair places may not be able to handle it. The places you suggested below sound hopeful; I will take a walk down there and try to find someone.

Thanks…

You could ask at Chongqing N. Rd. Sec. 4, #108, Mr. Lu, 0961-079-076. He does some luggage repair including wheel replacement, so he might do zippers too.

Wow thanks for the details. Will give Mr Lu a call.
