If CSB would only agree with the KMT, these delays would never have happened.
If KMT would only agree with CSB, these delays would never have happened.
Who’s in charge around here, anyway?
It was not CSB who solicited the purchase of these weapons systems. He is only obeying 1990’s KMT wishes and following through. For some strange blue reason, the KMT is now opposes what earliear they proposed.
It must be that weapons have never ever been bought through a special budget before, right?

This logic is as impalpable as it is funny
It’s a democracy, so unfortunately, we are.
But let’s say CSB is in charge for the sake of argument. Shouldn’t he be the one to blame, since he is in charge.

You’re joking? Right? Remember, there are people here who have absolutely no sense of humor.
LOL. If CSB had only agreed with the KMT back when he was a human rights lawyer, he’d probably be President now.
Hey wait…
Just a link to point out a great post on Micheal Turton’s blog about the arms purchase deal. I know the topic is a bit dated and Taiwan’s focus is now on the train wreak murder ~ son in law scandal (when will it end…) plus the LY is on vacation for the next three months so this is a non-issue for a while. Worth a read though:
Any person trying to get the US support will be facing the same similar problem - US will impose extremelly bad conditions for their support, so the DPP has a real bad problem with this one. But I agree that this is a pandora box… in one side we have a bad package that the government has to swallow if they can dream of keeping US support, in the other side there is a need for a good package which the other guy is not interested in giving. But I would defintelly preffer Taiwan to buy real offensive equipment (to destroy chinese capability in case of war) instead of buying stupid defensive equipment only. If you are fighting vesps, the best way is to kill the nest, isn’t it?
So you support entering an arms race with China?
Look at Cuba vs. USA for historical examples of an island taking on a larger land mass with nuclear deterrents.
Well, the arms race was started by China long time ago. I am in favour of buying dissuasive weapons… If the power of the Taiwanese military is enough to make China think twice before an invasion, why not? China also has many good military targets that could have devastating efects if Taiwan has means of destroying them.
Unless you want Taiwan = Cuba
Its a bad idea.
No matter what you call them “deterrents,” “defensive weapons,” “dissuassive weapons”…
Taiwan will enter an arms race which will bankrupt the island.
