Living in Taiwan it’s easy to forget that most of the Far East is a bit of a shambles. Malaysia has a lot of apparent wealth because they’re busy burning through a vast amount of natural capital; they’ve never been forced by circumstance to sort themselves out like, say, Singapore, so they don’t.
Lots of red flags in that article that hopefully a proper investigation will shed light on and lead to disciplinary actions and trainings.
But what is up with this:
"Cai tried to ask her driver for help, but the driver apparently asked if he could leave as he had another passenger waiting.
He then drove off with her family to the night market and left her behind."
Her family didn’t stay with her but went to the night market instead?
Malaysia tends to be relativy safe. Maybe not by taiwans very high standards, but certainly by most countrys’ standards!
Northern Malaysia, and especially southern Thailand has always been a Hotspot of issues.
Muslim/Islamic beliefs have certainly ramped up I have noticed in the past 2 decsdes that I frequented there. As has loyalty to Chinese communist infiltration. But the violence, I assume, doesn’t stem directly from either. Though the religious disagreements near the Thai border have always been a cause for concern on both sides.
One more plus to protect Taiwan…it’s happened. Sure. But literally not a single person worries about it.
Malaysia is a bit different. North peninsular where the Muslims, Buddhists and all them have scraps. Sabah back when south Philippines terrorists came in (I’ve been in Both situations, not fun to be sure!). Malaysia is worse than Taiwan, probably better than the USA.
Lots of guns and military. The sabah one I had my elderly mother in my car. The military screaming at my [taiwanese] wife thinking she was Filipino.. then the kidnappings when we lost the car on the the river down past sandakan towards the touristy islands. We said fuck it and skirted up the kinabatanan which turned out to be a pretty solid move.
Fun times. All around. No one got hurt. All good. A couple people died. All in all my mom doesn’t want to go back. But those are truly one offs. I found Malaysia VERY quick and VERY determined to stamp that shit out. Unlike other countries where this drags on for a long time.
The Malaysian side of the Thai border has some real issues, but nothing near what the Thai side had. Its been 2 years since I have been back, but the Thai side then seemed to have improved quite a lot. Maybe it’s the medical tobacco? Or?
My bigger worry with malaysia is how the Muslim side has gotten WAY stronger. Should say, controlling/oppressive. The China side has gotten way stronger as well, and yet the Han people there are still victims of racism (from the malay). It’s a weird one there. They all know the Malay muslim overlords are a big issue. They all know China is a big issue there. Yikes. But still, beats the US?
I might be changing my mind after some deeper thought.
The Malay hierarchical norms there have also become Muslim (and alike) hierarchical norms as well. Making religion a top ruling principle in politics I find to be fundamentally incorrect. To be polite.
Not to shit on the religion nor the race, but it is frankly undeniable their recent evolution. One of those things when Malaysia has openly and overtly gone full Muslim prioritism as well as full cucks for China, it’s a hard load to swallow. One of those things. I also find the Hans have a hard time criticizing the Muslim aspect of this issue then also needing to answer the China question. They go silent 9 times out of 10. Truly don’t know how to say.
Peninsular and borne si a bit different. But even then. Talking with many people there each time we are in the country. It’s the same story on repeat, just worse now.
I think I would prefer to be racially Han (not chinese) in Malaysia than be racially Mexican (not actually mexican) in the USA right now. Just observations
