anyone know where i can find pre-mixed chai packs…too lazy to buy the ingredients separately but i know there exist pre-mixed packs of various types…even the tazo brand stuff would do at a pinch but they don’t seem to carry that flavor here…
Everywhere but in Taiwan (at least while I was there)…it drove me mad. I used to make it from scratch as the OP suggested, or pick up teabags while in the States. They seem to be everywhere in the West now.
its the indian style tea made with sugar and spices. it also differs in that the whole kaboosh incl. the milk and sugar is prepared and heated in one go…if you ever visit india you will find it omnipresent…little boys (and men) called chaiwallahs walk the streets flogging it in throwaway earthern bowls…bear goes misty eyed in remembrance of chai past
I know a lot a peole who have been looking for chai mix, but have never found it. They do serve chai at Barista or Dante, but I have never seen the mix. Luckily, when I moved here I brought four 6lbs tubs of dry mix.
I dont know wether this helps but you dont need to buy any mix for making CHAI.
you can make it in 1 minute on Cooking gas or best make it in a microwave oven if you are too lazy.
I drink may be 3-4 cups of it everyday , dont use any mix or anything.though i go in for the lazy option.
do it your self its easy.
heres how i do it :
Take half cup of water put sugar according to your taste in it,use a lipton red label(any black tea bag ).add 3-4 tea spoons of milk , put the cup in microwave for 1.10 minutes .and its ready.you can put a little bit of ginger if you like or Cardamon to make it more tasty.
Jason’s at Taipei 101 has Numi Ruby Chai tea bags. It contains Rooibos, Cloves, Allspice, Ginger, Cardamom, Nutmeg and Cinnamon, and is not bad for tea in a bag. And caffeine free, of course, as it’s Rooibos.
I also got some nice spice mix for Chai from the guy who runs/works in (?) the “Out of India” restaurant in Shida Road.
Sigh. Chai! “Betrays me back” to the long rocking black train rides with only the smell and shouts of “Chai!” to anchor me to the ever-evasive edge of consciousness…
Chai!
It was the only reason I ever WENT to Starbucks back home. You’d think it would be quite acceptable to the Taiwanese palate, too. Sigh.[/quote]
Same for me. It was the only thing I ever bought at Starbucks…outside of Taiwan. In Taiwan, if I go to Starbucks, I have to settle for coffee… grrrr.

coffee is to the chai latte as “self-love” is to group sex with your 3 most fantasised-about partners…
btw that jasons rooisbos chai sounds like its worth checking out. funny i’ve never seen it there before. may be it’s new…
the bear, if you mean tea masala, you can find in kaohsiung, in front of the main gate of Chiang Kai-shek Culture Center ,there is one shop called Mayalu Shop.
“Afternoon Tea” (Sogo, IDEE Taipei) serves Chai Milk Tea if that’s alright with you (IMO, Chai Latte is better )
as for pre-mixed tea packs, there is a little shop (can’t remember the name, starts with a L) at B2 level of Mitsukoshi Taipei City Hall that sells Chai tea packs for 60 NT each (1 serving)
For those around Banciao, there is an Indian guy selling Ribs on a Stick just inside the Banciao night market. He also always has a pot of Chai. Really good.
