number of hours (guest) English teachers may teach as about thirty - two!

I think it means that you’re not allowed to teach for more than thirty-two hours per week.

An hour is a unit of time, made up of sixty minutes. You can buy a device called a ‘clock’, or its portable equivelant, a ‘watch’, to help you count how many hours you work.

‘Not allowed’ means that if you do more than that then you are breaking the law. It’s a bit like driving too fast. Somebody in authority decides on a limit, usually for the good of society, and you are expected to observe it.

I hope that helps. Are there any other terms you don’t understand? You know what teaching is, right?

I believe this applies to both teachers and schools. Schools may not have a teacher teach more than 32 hours in a week, and teachers may not get legal teaching jobs in excess of 32 hours in a week. This will affect ARCs with multiple employers listed on them.

Hah! My school had me working 50 hours a week, but I know only the buxiban ones were reported…both hours-wise and… :silenced:

It seems a strange law, but I think there is good reason behind it. It is to do with having multiple work permits and limiting the amount of schools you can actually work for.

According to the rules you must work a minimum of 14 hours at one school to qualify for an ARC. To get an additional work permit you must work a minimum six hours at a school. I doubt the CLA would actually do anything if you were working more than 32 hours at one school. However, if you had multiple work permits that said you were working for more than 32 hours they might start asking questions.

There is a good article explaining it at tealit.
