McCain Campaigner Falsely Claims to Have Been Attacked

The McCain campaign’s Ashley Todd was arrested for filing a false complaint, claiming that a black man had dared to violate her person by carving a backwards “B” on her face with a “very dull knife”. I guess her imaginary friend must have been looking in a mirror at the time… :loco: edition.cnn.com/2008/POLITICS/10 … index.html
Bail was set at $50,000 Friday night for a GOP campaign worker who made up a story about being attacked by a man angered by a John McCain bumper sticker on her car.

Ashley Todd, 20, of College Station, Texas, has been charged with filing a false police report, a misdemeanor, a police report said.

Richard said the woman had described her alleged attacker as an African-American, 6 feet 4 inches tall with a medium build and short dark hair, wearing dark clothing and shiny shoes.

Before the revelation that the report was false, McCain spokeswoman Jill Hazelbaker said that McCain and running mate Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin “spoke to the victim and her family after learning about the incident.”
I’m still looking for confirmation as to whether Todd is the McCain campaign person who came up with the idea of having Sarah Palin be the v.p. candidate.
John McCain’s instant acceptance of the highly suspicious story that one of his female campaign workers had been attacked at an ATM in Pittsburgh by a black Obama supporter who carved a backwards “B” on her face is the latest example of his judgment and style of decision-making, which would be potentially disastrous in a president.

Without waiting to find out whether this cockamamie story, which police immediately discounted. was true, Sen. McCain telephoned and spoke with the putative victim. His campaign pushed the sketchy story to the national media.

Occurring at a time when the McCain campaign is running an ad warning of how Barack Obama would react to a crisis, Mr. McCain’s shoot-from-the-hip reaction to this false story serves to remind us once again how totally inappropriate his reaction to a crisis would be.
Meanwhile, the Republicans are still running about telling hoax story as if it were true: pajamasmedia.com/blog/obama-supp … -new-york/

*apparently “real” in the Republican lexicon means “completely fake”

This has already been discussed in the “other” forum.

Am I the only one who thinks having two IP forums (the “polite” one, and the “nasty” one) is a waste of time? It just makes things more difficult to navigate, and leads to duplication. Actually the “polite” forum is really no more “polite” at all.

Who the heck reads the polite one?

And what’s polite about politics or about McCain campaigners making up false stories of attacks by black men? Naw, this is the proper place to discuss this sort of failed Republican smear.

It was posted in the “polite” forum by a desperate GOP supporter. When proven false he tried to disassociate the accuser with John McCain, and link her with Ron Paul. All very embarrassing…

John Moody of Fox News is ready for the fat lady to sing: foxforum.blogs.foxnews.com/author/johnmoody/

As fast as this ridiculous story started up, anybody who saw the woman’s face with the backwards “B” knew something was fishy. And yet the McCain campaign were glad to publicize the fake story all over the place, apparently hoping that Todd wouldn’t crack early and tell anybody the truth.

thinkprogress.org/2008/10/25/mccain-hoax/ has a clip of Brian Williams explaining how the McCain campaign flogged this fake attack story all over the place.

Before the police had released any details about the attack, the McCain campaign was already sending out press releases with inflammatory quotes that were, to all appearances, made up by the McCain campaign itself. dailykos.com/storyonly/2008/ … 282/641455
