Melatonin in Taiwan

Can I buy Melatonin in Taiwan?
I went to GNC here but they said its considered a drug so they don’t sell it.
If not is it legal to bring here?

You have to apply for import permission first from the Taiwan FDA, then you can order from overseas. Otherwise customs will not allow it in.

Crazy. I take melatonin because it is safe. I usually just bring some with me when I visit the US. Is it not legal to order it from iherb?

was afraid of that, its too much trouble.

Yes, you can order it, but it will not clear customs w/o the import permit unless the rules have changed.

Here is an article from the FDA on it that spells out the laws and fines

I have been ordering melatonin through iHerb site since 2015 without any import permit. I think that there is a limit of a number of bottles per transaction if I remember correctly. But I did not have to produce any import permit. Very simple. That site has so many varieties of melatonin and related products to choose from. (Another plus)

I just ordered some melatonin from iherb. It should arrive Tuesday. I’ll let you know if it clears.

I take it as I can sleep early and wake up early. Also, it gives me much more vivid dreams. It’s like the difference between 480p and 4k

yes I buy it regularly here and GNC would have charged you two to three times the regular price.

Crusher, are you sure its Melatonin? You buy it from a Pharmacy? GNC in Taiwan sells a sleep aid but its herbal does not have Melatonin in it. When I asked GNC they said theyre not allowed to sell it in TW due to FDA restrictions

I wonder if doctors here can prescribe melatonin.

However, Chi Jo-feng (祁若鳳), a senior technical specialist at the Food and Drug Administration, said melatonin has been listed as a controlled substance in Taiwan since 1996.

According to the Pharmaceutical Affairs Act (藥事法), people who import or sell illegal drugs, such as melatonin, can face up to 10 years in prison or a fine of up to NT$50 million (US$1.55 million), the ministry said.

People can purchase melatonin for personal use, but are allowed to bring in only 12 bottles, it said, adding that selling them is strictly against the law.

You can tell from the timestamp that I need this, and it seems safer option than any of the synthetic drugs which are available here. But it’s actually a controlled substance omg.

Seems like ordering online is the only option?

PS: I don’t see it listed here? Controlled Drugs Act - Article Content - Laws & Regulations Database of The Republic of China (Taiwan)

Yea, doctors here will hand out xanax or other benzos like candy. All you have to do is ask. But for some reason melatonin is controlled.

I tried melatonin and it doesn’t even work that well for me unless I took insane doses.

I learned this many years ago, long before the OP. I really miss Melatonin. I used to take a fairly low dose sublingual type and it worked well. I used to bring it in my suitcase coming back but I don’t know if that was verboten. It really doesn’t make any sense why it is so regulated.

You can get Stilnox here, the equivalent of Ambien, but you have to go through the hospital, you can’t get it over the counter. Half a pill was enough for me but sometimes it gave me kind of a hangover effect.

It is. Up to 12 bottles.

Apparently you don’t need much. Basically everyone is over-using it, 0.3mg is enough.

Of course not everyone is the same.

Melatonin has also been used as an aid in the treatment of Covid. Just look it up.

I’ve ordered from iHerb before. While it doesn’t make me fall to sleep easier, I seem to sleep more deeply.

Xanax does that… it makes you dream like crazy too. Doctors here hand them out like candy.
