Seems you cant watch news without multiple daily incidents of senseless, emotional violence. Not little gangster shits or real gangs, but ordinary people.
I think it is due to widespread use of antidepressants/sleeping pills which are given out like candy combined with alcohol.
Of course there are cultural factors too, but those have been widely discussed as to how many Taiwanese have the emotional maturity of grade school kids especially when it comes to losing face.
So, how can we get police/courts/news to make a point of this? Any ideas to push forward reform in this area?
As an aside, I’d like to invest in for-profit mental hospitals/prisons in Taiwan, thinkl they are gonna fill up rapidly
Can you provide us with any evidence, anecdotal or otherwise, of a link in Taiwan between violent crime and prescription medication?
schizophrenics for one tend to commit violent crimes when they are unmedicated not medicated. I’ve personally seen a guy in Taipei turn into a violent individual once his meds ran out. And once he got back on his meds he was right as rain.
You make it sound as though there’s an epidemic of unmedicated schizophrenic people committing violent crime. Actually, most people with schizophrenia don’t tend to commit violent crimes when they are unmedicated and are more often the victims of violence as well as self-harm. Are there people who are schizophrenic, unmedicated, and have committed violent crime? Certainly and there’s some statistical evidence to show that there’s a link between “untreated psychosis and an increased risk of aggressive behavior”. But, a majority of violent crime is not committed by them. Schizophrenia is a horrible disease and those who have it suffer tremendously both while on meds and off of them.
