Michael Vick indicted for dog fighting kennel

Some grisly details:

In March 2003, after a pit bull from Bad Newz Kennels lost in a fight, it said Peace consulted with Vick about the losing dog’s condition, then executed it by wetting it with water and electrocuting it;

About eight young dogs were put to death at the Surry County home after they were found not ready to fight in April 2007, the indictment said. They were killed “by hanging, drowning and/or slamming at least one dog’s body to the ground.”

If true, they shouldn’t let him get away with it even if he’s a NFL qb, and not a very good one at that. Sure he runs, but does he win games?

Celebrities need to get slammed more and shouldn’t get different treatment.

So far I haven’t seen much to suggest the government is gonna back off or give him a pass. If anything, I’d say they’ve pursued this more heavily than your average animal abuse case. If it gets to trial, who knows, I guess it would depend on whether there are more Vick fans or dog lovers on the jury.

That certainly will be a point raised by Vick defenders, but I don’t believe this to be true. Dog fighting is unlawful in all 50 states and all but two states characterize some activities related to dog fighting as a felony. If there is a truism to prosecutors, it’s that they love convictions, especially felonies. If a prosecutor is confident that he can convict a person of a felony, whether it is dog fighting, purse snatching or underwear sniffing, he’ll do it.

The only thing, IMO, that sets this case apart from other animal abuse cases is who is being charged with the crime, which in this instance happens to be a famous American athlete. Vick’s fame will result in media coverage way beyond normal for a typical animal abuse case. However, I have seen nothing to believe that Vick’s fame is the motivation behind the efforts of the prosecution. In fact, Vick’s fame (and wealth - meaning ability to pay expensive lawyers to be a pain in the ass in this case) would likely cause the prosecution to move slowly to insure that they have a solid case against Vick before pressing charges.

Because another truism of prosecutors is that they hate to lose.

I hope they nail his ass. :fume:

Anybody who is a Michael Vick fan doesn’t know sweet f**k all about football. Overhyped dog abusing, turd sucking, rat faced excuse for a QB.

I hope they nail his sac to the outhouse wall.

Exactly!
Give a guy a hundred million bucks and what does he do? What a reprobate?

They should also kick him out of the NFL for conduct unbecoming a human being, IMO. But hey, that’s not going to happen. He’ll probably get suspended for a few games and made to attend humane society classes, or else made to work in an SPCA shelter.

Sad thing is, the ability to throw an oval-shaped ball accurately and make $$$ for the owners and the league is more important than character.

The NFL should have stricter rules of conduct (zero tolerance for things of that nature as well as for drugs, [steroids included–now that’s another laugh] etc.) and enforce the rules in order to keep out the miscreants whose improper behaviour might negatively influence the next generation of “stars.” But hey, the likelihood of that also happening is…very marginal at best. Too bad!

How many threads about this do we need?

And why is this in IP??

Falcons fan. :unamused:

/sarcasm.

Feel free to put this in open forum. and I didn’t see any other threads, or else I was first.

EDIT: I see the other thread in pet forum, though that is now talking more about class/race than the dog crime. For the record, I put in this thread 8 hours ahead of the other one.
