Mid-high end buffet restaurant in Taipei City or New Taipei City?

Hi all,

I haven’t been back for 8 years and this time I am going back for my wedding reception. I want to treat friends and family to a good restaurant for their help on my wedding. My budget is between $600NT to $1200NT, any good recommendation?

Thanks!

There a many buffets in Taipei and “mid-high end” is relative to who your hosting and the style of food they like. Many are the style of food that Taiwanese prefer and many have a more western flare.

The Japanese buffet in the Hyatt Hotel is somewhat “prestigious” in Taiwan and the buffet on the first floor is very popular. “W” Hotel has a nice brunch by the pool at their “Kitchen Table”. These are nice as your near 101 and the popular shopping district. The lunch buffet at the Sheraton is probably one of the more popular in Taipei.

“Q Mall” next to Taipei main train station has an extremely popular fairly nice buffet on the 5th floor.

Sorry I don’t have more specific on prices as I never get between a Taiwanese and a buffet line…

Best IMHO is the one at the Sheraton Hotel. Better service than Hyatt, too.

Thanks for the replies.

I will definitely look them up. Does any of resturant include alcholic beverages in the price? I hope I don’t have to spend $1200NT/person + another few thousand $NT on drinks.

Thanks!

Mitsukoshi A11 (Across from The Vieshow, formerly Warner Village) has a great Japanese buffet on the 5th floor. High quality fare with wine and a draft tap on the buffet.

Jogaya?

I believe the Japanese buffet referenced is Shen Yeh at Mistukoshi - I found it pretty so-so as far as the sushi is concerned, but the hot food options were interesting - however, if the guests are Western, this will probably not be a good choice given the ratio of ‘exotic’ to ‘standard’ offerings.

The sushi buffet at 101 closed, but I believe there is a restaurant there which has a table-served all you can eat option during certain hours which might be a nicer experience than everyone getting up and refilling their own plates.

The best buffet in the city would be the weekend brunch at the W Taipei - highly recommend it. I eat the regular breakfast buffet there frequently as a Plat guest (served before the brunch) and even that blows all the other buffets (and most of the USA buffets outside of Las Vegas) out of the water…the actual weekend brunch service tops even that. Dish options are very Chinese and Western friendly and the staff speak perfect English if you have visitors who do not speak Chinese (not the case at Shin Yeh which will require a lot of pointing and gesturing).

Hi Stephen,Thank you for the recommendation.

I went to the W Taipei’s site and find the brunch pricey, $1,900NT +10% including drinks and $1,500NT +10% without. It is out of my price range, but is it really worth it? I may go myself with a LIMITED number of friend instead of treating 15+ folks

I think it really depends on the type of cuisine you want for your guests, the ambiance, service (in English or no English), etc - if you have a large group, they might be willing to negotiate a fixed price discount if you came during a shoulder hour, perhaps later in the brunch period. There is a very nice seating area outside they could reserve for your group.

If the focus is on sushi or a specific cuisine and language is not an issue, there are other options.

End up going to the Regent Hotel’s dinner buffet. The venue is nice and ritzy and the presentation of the dishes is superb, however, everything considered, I dont think the $1,100NTD+10% service charge price tag is justified. No alchocol is included, not even beer. Roasted prime rib, sashimi, Hagen Daz ice cream and the huge desert selection were the highlights.

The last remaining Jogoya branch is the one in Mo-Mo department store, the one right next to IKEA on Nanjing & Dunhua across from Taipei Arena.
