I was at my nearby Family Mart today to grab a drink and came across an unfamiliar logo. The can was white and had a big (Mine Malt Beer) Logo in blue on it. I thought it was just another japanese import, when to my surprise I saw the 台灣啤酒(Taiwan Beer) printing on the top of the can. The description was in english and it read " smooth and refershing" so I decided to grab a can and have it for the walk home. To my surprise the beer was really really light…it had no “bite” to it and it had a really faint rice flavor, similar to the other taiwan beer brands. To tell the truth it didn’ really taste like anything at all . It was however refreshing but to my disspointment very very tasteless. I would even call it beer flavored soda water
has any one tried this new offspring brand yet? and if so what did you think?? ![]()
I’ve seen it and wouldn’t touch it. Excuse me because I’ve said it before,
but I won’t touch Taiwanese- or Chinese-made beer.
Stick with the Japanese (like Strong Seven) or other imports like Tiger Beer or San Miguel. You can tell imported by the Japanese characters on the side and Chinese language sticker put on the can. If the can has a Taiwanese phone number on the can itself (e.g. 0800-…), it’s Chinese made, even if it’s a Japanese name like Asahi.
I tried it, and I was pretty disappointed. Usually I dirnk Kirin, but I think the green Taiwan beer is pretty damn good. Then again, I lived in Korea for nine months
Try RT-Mart, the home of beer connoisseurs, for an improved Mart experience, or Atlanta, for a MARTA experience, but MRT is light years better than MARTA.
Tasteless, exactly my feelings when I drank it. I infinitely prefer regular Taiwan JingPai ‘gold medal’ beer or the Draft Taiwan Beer, which are fresh tasting and have some flavour…now if they could do that and bring in a diet version, I’m their first customer!
hey whats the prices of beer over there these days? I picked up a six pack of Michelob ULTRA yesterday. Its a great lite beer . Most lite beer tastes like shit but this one aint bad. two point six grams of carbs and 95 calories a bottle. NOt bad for diet me.
Its bout a buck a bottle with a six pack plus tax or roughly 37nt a bottle in a supermarket. Beer aint cheap here in the bay area.
Unless you wanna drink OLD MILWAUKEE or PABST. they are bout 8 bucks for a 12pack in ali cans or bout 25nt/can.
MIller high life is bout the same 25nt/can. The draft is more like bout 30nt/can.
The mexican beer is expensive at bout 7 bucks for a six pack plus tax or bout 43nt/bottle or more as prices go up and down.
MOst of the beers run from 5.99 per six pack to 7.99 per six pack plus tax plus the five cents per bottle/can fee.
So beer is not cheap here.
I found Mine to hit the spot during a humid summer evening, but it felt like its alcohol content was just about zero.
I also found it tasteless. I prefer brown-bottle Taiwan Beer.
People get tired of me saying, “Hey. That beer is Mine!”
Then stick with the PBR… You can’t beat it. Shit, PBR almost caused me to get locked up last Sunday in San Fran.
I tried the “Mine” beer last night, a deuce-deucer and it wasn’t that bad, but then again my fav. beers are PBR and MHL, “The Champagne of Beers”
Speaking of the Champagne, if you go to Miramar, the outside bar has them buy-one get one free. And they are in a bottle and ice-cold. heavenly
Yeah…I’m a brown bottle man myself. The gold medal and draft just don’t have the same kick.
You mean the chemical ethanol flavour
Yeah. Or was it the formaldehyde? Or the skunked from getting left in the sun taste. Anyway, goes great with seafood.
YEAH, IM a brown bottle guy myself as well. In fact on recent trip back to the rock , I didnt even try the MIne Malt beer.
Well actually I didnt see any brown bottles either so I didnt drink any TW beer. I did try the Asahi and the Kirin from China though. The BAR beer wasnt as good as the draft from the Chinese factory, I believe from Asahi, or some other similar Japa brand.
I bought a case of the Mine Malt Beer just the other day at RT Mart. But only because they had a beer garden with free on-tap Mine Malt and after six (free) pints all resistance crumbled.
The wife dragged me away as I was negotiating a twelve-case buy-in-bulk deal with the slightly bewildered Taiwan Beer rep.
I thought the Malt Beer was OK, but I still prefer Taiwan Gold Medal. Yay! :discodance:
I was so happy to return to Taiwan and see Kona!!!
The “Mine” Beer is pretty bad. I was dissappointed too. I stick with the seafood restaurants and their tall Asahi gold label “gan bei” beer. Where I live that is usually the best deals in town too. Three for 100nt, or 4 for 150nt. Can’t go wrong with that. Gan bei for life!!
