Methinks the lady doth protest too much. Should we start calling you Cleo JD? You know, short for Cleopatra, Queen of Denial?
What is your basic malfunction here? Are you trolling? Or are you fishing for some wide-stance bathroom action yourself?
We are talking about human beings being treated as less than. As if they were 3/5ths the value of a breeder. And for a politico who shares the inclination to be such a hypocrite in denying his group basic rights is just so…what’s the right word here…so…ahhhh…Red State American.
Future generations are gonna look back at this moment in history and think how fucked we were to discriminate against gays. Aren’t you glad your “musings” are here waiting here on flob for your child to grow up so she can read all about how Daddy hates the fags?
From your perspective, then, it should be perfectly legal for a business to refuse to serve blacks? Jews? Muslims? Women?
I totally agree. Fiscal conservatism has nothing to do with sexuality. If the Republican party weren’t currently so virulently anti-gay, I’d say there was certainly room for a gay person to support them. However, I can’t comprehend a gay person who votes for someone who openly professes to despise them, and would vote to prevent or curtail any rights they had. Closeted gay politicians who vote anti-gay and get caught in gay relationships deserve everything they get. The current discussion is not about fiscal issues.
Your first statement is spot on. jdsmith, are you listening?
Not sure how I feel about the middle part. The government arguably has an interest in promoting a stable society, and formally recognizing relationships, granting them responsibilities for each other and providing them privileges arguably serves that purpose.
And I largely agree with the last part, but separate-but-equal has historically proven to be messy, so either make all unions civil unions or all unions marriages, and grant them equal status, recognition and protection under the law.
But not to stray too far off topic, which is not gay marriage but hypocrites, any politician who publicly opposes the rights of gays and then found out to be gay themselves, deserves ridicule.

For private business yes, I thought this would have been implicit in my post. Oh and just to stoke you further. I also don’t think penalties for punching a gay should be anymore than for punching anyone else.

The discussion is not about hate crimes, and I can’t believe you think a restaurant has the right to refuse to serve a black customer…

I can’t believe you think you can legislate away hate and bigotry all you do is drive it underground. If I was black I’d want to know which businesses hated blacks. Let them annouce their bigotry publically. At best the market will punish them for their stupidity at worst, I’d know which restaurant to avoid. You really want to give your business to a place owned by someone who hates you?

Well, my kid will be able to read and will see that Daddy never said anything of the sort. What he will see is a bunch of sadists mocking people for being who they are and yet acting politically in a way that appears counter intuitive. I suggested earlier what I thought should be the appropriate response to these peple, yes, one of compasion and maturity. You lot seem to feel that scorn works. Does it? I have my doubts.
Are you insinuating that I may be looking for some gay action Toesave? hmm? Do you think I am insulted by that? Sorry db, but I’m not. I care that someone is gay about as much as I care that another is hetero. Being gay is not insulting to me in any form.
As for being overly dramatic, I thought that was your bit. Keeping in shape are we? But Craig here, who lives in EXILE seems to be giving you a run for run money.

When your kid turns out to be gay and comes across this thread, he’d probably wonder why his dad was defending a closeted politician who was deliberately trying to make his life more miserable.
Gingerheads are demons. They should not be afforded the same rights as us God-loving Christians. In Gillead Nation, gingers won’t enjoy spousal benifits and be openly discriminated against. Attacking a ginger will be easily defended by any number of fear-induced stresses as we in Gillead Nation know how vulnerable our faith is to demonic forces, such as gingers.
How would you feel if you were forced to choose between your country/home and your wife, and then have someone ridicule you for it?
I can only hopenpray for all those homosexuals now living in the US under tyranny! I simply do not see things as being so bad that you must flee from the ENTIRE USA and live in exile anywhere. I tend to see the plight of gays in American as paling in comparison to the plight of women.
And listen up Beethoven, I’m not ridiculing the plight of gays in the US in this thread. Not at all. This thread is about bashing and humiliating closet gay politicians whose political views contrast with their sexual preferences. Heaping scorn on them and not confronting them in a mature manner signifies that you and many others in this thread are like school on Sunday as are the “gentlemen” who make sexual jokes about women in politics for lack of thought. However, I do realize it’s easier to be lazy and stupid than rational and compassionate.
I feel compassion is in order PARTICULARLY from the “gay community” as they are the ones who have dealt with repression of gayness, being ostracized and the terror of being outed. God forbid they (read YOU) show a little tenderness and understanding. They could gain a powerful friend, but noooooooo, mockingbirds must sing. Gay community my ass.:raspberry:

Doubtful, he’ll probably wonder, as my wife does, why I insist on wasting time arguing with nincompoops who race bait in one thread and gay bait in another.
Which brings me to yaaaaaaaaawn, Toesave.
I put up the because I had forgotten about Chris and that he still posts here and that I had yet to ignore him, yts.

You don’t see things being so bad because you are not being forced to make that choice.
ex·ile:
prolonged separation from one’s country or home, as by force of circumstances
The circumstances are that I have a life partner, significant other, domestic partner, spouse from Taiwan. He can not get legal residence in the US, and the law says I can’t sponsor him, unlike you and your spouse. Circumstances are such, therefore, that I am separated from my country in order to stay together with my spouse. You might think that is a voluntary choice, but I don’t think you would feel that way if it were a decision between your spouse and your country. You don’t have to make that decision, and neither should I, but circumstances, which are largely prolonged by these right-wing politicians, require me to. And, any fucking politician who says I shouldn’t have the right to marry and sponsor my partner, and then gets outed for being gay himself, deserves all the scorn that can be heaped on them.
The lazy way out of this would be to have separated from my partner and stayed in my country. And, people who make life miserable for others, particularly when they are discovered to belong to the same historically oppressed group, deserve no compassion.
Why? have any of these politicians been secretly and legally married to men?
Maybe not, but they’ve been having sex with them.
Are you really that dense that you don’t get it? Or are you just trolling?

Look, it’s very easy to say I’m trolling when in fact I’m just asking a reasonable question. :no-no:
And men having sex with men is not a crime, is it? No matter what their occupations are. So let’s get this straight:
You think these guys are being hypocrites because they speak out against “gay issues” and then go and have gay sex with men, right? Right.
Do you think they shouldn’t be having gay sex or they shouldn’t be speaking out against “gay issues?”
Do you think that because they have gay sex that they should support gay issues (even though some of them are married and probably bi or latent-curious) ?
Yet, you do realize, if they are conservative politicians then the chances of them supporting the gay agenda (if such a thing exists) is probably less than it would be if they were liberal politicians? They still represent their constituents and are held accountable to them. Right?
Do you think they should switch sides and become liberals? Or stop having gay sex? Or start supporting the gay agenda?
You see, the issue here is far more complex than you make it out to be.
Now gay sex AFAIK is not illegal in the US. So these politicians are not breaking any laws, unless they choose to have said sex in public places. So what is your REAL problem with this? I think I know: that some gay men, or bi, or married men who dabble once and a while do not 100% support the gay agenda. And you think they should.
However, maybe they, like me and many many MANY other people have little or no vested interest in the gay agenda, in particular to a gay marriage law, so they seem to not give it much thought (like I said before far more women get fucked over far more often than gay men in the US). Now, say, just imagine, that once outed, said gay/bi.dabbling politician is made aware in a nice way about situations such as YOURS you might actually make some headway politically, instead of ganging up on him in an effort to humiliate him and hope for his political ruin on an online forum where no one really cares.
btw, where are all the gay/bi/dabbling liberal politicians on this issue? How is the whole gay marriage thing playing in the deep Democrat South?

Except you’ve had the issue explained to you numerous times.
You are correct, it’s not a crime. And at face value I don’t care who they boink.
But that’s not the point. My problem is that they’re using their positions of power to act against gay interests (e.g. denying them equal rights, fomenting anti-gay hatred, spreading disinformation, etc.), while being gay themselves.
The latter.
Yes. If you’re gay, you should either support gay issues, or at the very minimum remain neutral on the subject. But not vote against the interests of your fellows in the LGBT community. That’s self-betrayal.
Why should that even be so? Why can’t one be conservative, yet also be pro-gay?
And if their constituents were anti-Semites? Or racists? Or, to consider an absurdity just to make a point, pedophiles?
No to the first. No to the second. Yes to the third; or at least, stop opposing it (the “gay agenda” merely being equality and acceptance.)
As far as I’ve seen, they’re not voting against gay interests or condemning gays as undesirables.
I’ll make you a deal: Find me a gay liberal politician who votes against the interests of gays or condemn gays as deviants, and I’ll condemn him just as roundly as I have condemned conservative politicians who have done the same.
jdsmith, how about if the topic were about an African-American politician who, if it were possible, hiding his racial identity and speaking out against African-Americans? This politician regularly spoke about how decadent and evil the community was, proposed legislation limiting their rights and then was discovered to be African-American himself. Wouldn’t outrage from the African-American community be justified?
