Science and technology programs enrolled 512,000 students last year, accounting for 48.4 percent of all college students and making it the largest category. Social sciences accounted for 354,000 students, or 33.5 percent, while humanities enrolled 191,000 students, or 18.1 percent.
I saw a Taiwan News article that showed people think you have to be an engineer to make a good living now (can’t find the article). It’s good to see labor supply being quite responsive to demand.
I remember reading in a Lonely Planet guide about Taiwan in the late 90s that said 35% of college grads were engineering majors.
