Mormons

…or jahovas witnesses or 7th day adventists or I dunno what they are. They’re on JinShan lu every day when I walk to school and they’re really starting to piss me off :fume:. They wear white shirts and they have black nametags and I’ve really had enough of them. Today they tried to talk to my friends and I as we were leaving a restaurant, and we really just wanted to mind our own business.

Who else here deals with them on a frequent basis? :fume: :fume: :fume: :fume: :fume:

They’re Mormon missionaries. I usually smile and say hello if they do the same to me. If they try proselytizing at me I simply interrupt them with a: “Sorry, I’m not remotely interested in that stuff.” Its always worked very well indeed for me.

Sandman I like your passive approach… but if I can punch one of them in the nuts it would make me feel much better…

Why?

Offer to listen over a few beers.

They’re harmless. One once let me ride his bicycle! And they smile a lot. Makes a change from the miserable faces in the buses and MRTs.

Sounds like how I feel when I meet 20-something Canookians studying Chinese. FAR more irritating than any Mormons!

Yeah, that really bites, man! White!!! :fume:

OH, GOD! Nametags! :fume:

OH, those mouth-movers! Jeez! :fume: Too bad people don’t all wear blue and go nameless and not talk to others, huh? GAWD!

No Dragonbones I was just describing them, you know that. Maybe they don’t talk to you every single morning, which is why you don’t understand how mad I am.

I always tell them I like Mormons, and was a big fan of the movie Latter Days. If they don’t know that is a gay movie where a missionary…uh…“discovers” some things about himself (and others), I tell them my favorite part about Mormonism is all the gay sex.

What’s the matter with you? If it bothers you THAT much, why on earth don’t you just tell them NOT to talk to you or look at you? Seems a no-brainer to me. Of course, you’ll come off as a stupid prick, but that doesn’t seem to be something that bothers you particularly, judging by your posts here.
“Kick them between the eyes”
“Punch them in the nuts”
Nice, man! That’s some REAL class you have going on there! :unamused:

 You just don’t have the right Mormon-repelling technique down yet. You could learn a lot from people like Sandman.

They’ll usually go away if you’re clear that you’re not interested. Heck, you could even learn from their approach. I used to get a lot of unwanted calls from one particular individual. I usually just hung up, but the calls stopped when I started saying, “Hey, ***, this mormon guy came round my house and you won’t believe what I’ve learnd from the pamphlets he gave me–here, I’ll read it to you . . .” Worked like magic.

Yeah, my mom does something similar: Sure, I’ll listen to you about your religion for up to one hour, after I tell you all about God’s TRUE religion, mine, for one full hour. Never fails to repel them.

not necessarily true. Here in Taichung they hit on scooter drivers on big intersections. when the light turns red, they come out of the bushes and talk people up. It is up to a level that I call harassment and they are not letting go when the light turns green. the traffic starts- the mormons quack quack quack. I hate those brainless idiots and tell them to fuck off on a regular basis.

Yeah, the Mormon temple is over off of Jinshan Lu, so you’re definitely going to run into them over there. No way around it. But if you’re not interested, just nicely tell them so. Works for me. I get approached by Jehovah’s Witnesses here on an incredibly frequent basis (sometimes I wonder if I have a sign on my forehead that says “Please proselytize me”)–I just smile and tell them I’m not interested. The end. No need to get angry.

Completely agree with bumclouds. They are annoying and drive me up the wall. I once was followed for a block, regardless of how “polite” I was and let him know I wasn’t interested. I would never try to force my own religion down someone else’s throat like they are “trying” to do. Yes, they are friendly and smile and all the other BS people pull when trying to spread (insert some belief here).

Nice folks these Mormons, never had a problem with any of them.

IMO they aren’t nice at all, absolutely brain washed and more people should have a problem with them.

a bit harsh.

during my time here, I have played sports with various Mormons on their tours through Taiwan and never once has any of them ever tried to preach to me, convert me or get me to go to church.

they’ve always been polite, friendly and reliable.
