Motorcycle touring

well, thats great. wanna join planning? i heard from others they might be interested in that tour as well…

any input is welcome

last weekend i finally had the time to do the tour together with another forumosan.
we went over yangminshan in search for a special restaurant we heard about earlier. well, we didn’t find it but we went some awesome roads, totally empty and really nice, wide and with breathtaking views to the north shore.
from there we went down to the coast to baishawan and headed along road #2 towards keelung, passing it on the #5 towards rueifang and headed then back into the mountains on the #106 towards pingsi, where we had a well earned break (again). the whole tour lasted for some 5 hours and we covered around 250km.
what a great ride, i’ll certainly do it again. everyone is welcome to join. this tour or another. the roads are many.

It’s maybe not be touring, but I ride the routes around the south of Taipei, to the coast and up to the North of Taiwan included, most weekends. If anyone’s looking for riding partners, let me know, I’ll be there anyway.

We are a small group that ventures out almost every weekend for some bike riding and sight seeing from the Hsinchu area. We have been to numerous places, all over the island. Long trips and day trips. Although I have a 150cc hipster, everyone else has scooters. I keep record of everyhting, like maps, place names, GPS coordinates and photos, and started to post it on www.i12ride.com . You are welcome to join, or to give some advice on interesting places.

Sounds good. But I get a blank page on your website, is it just me?

Sounds good. But I get a blank page on your website, is it just me?[/quote]No, me too. Hope you can sort that out, lumka1. Sounds like an interesting site!

i apologize, the website is not working - i am not one of those computer savvy one’s… i will try to sort it out!

We just came back from a 2 day trip to Lalashan. It’s an easy ride, with lots of thins to see along the way. We were the ONLY guests in the hotel, and we made a massive bonfire in the parking area!

I will post future plans here is anyone is interested - and vice verca. My next mission will be the weekend on Dragon Boat festival for a longer trip. Any ideas?

Sure, but I don’t really want to wait a year to get a reply from you…
I can see your site now, too bad I need to registar to see your pics, you might want to rethink that.

no need to register to see the photos! The pics are accessible, but to download / leave a comment, registration is needed.

The info is a bit slow to get posted, the reason is a combination of laziness and being busy, bit i will post more tours on there!

You are right, my bad.

That’s OK, but yeah, post more, seems you’re having some good fun !!!

So … is there anywhere I could go on a 125cc majesty?

Anywhere you like, as long as you stay off the freeways and expressways.

I agree - anywhere - We had a trip up Hehuang Mt [if I am correct - the highest road in Taiwan], and some people in our group only had 100cc scooters…

Why do I have to stay off expressways?

Is there a nice sandy beach nearby Taipei I could get to w/out using expressways/highways?

Sorry for the newby questions :frowning:

You need a bike of 550cc or over to ride on the expressways. No bikes are allowed on the freeways.
You can ride on any of the provincial highways and smaller roads.
Go north via Tanshui or over Yangmingshan and you can get to Baishawan easily. Go south past Muzha on the 106 and you get to Fulong. But there are sandy beaches all along that stretch of coast.

IME, scooters, even 50cc, are as common in the mountain villages as in the cities.

Am looking for bikers to join for day trips.
I have a CPI 250, so highways or freeways (what the hell is the difference??)are off limits to me.

Scooters are welcome too, as long as you don’t drive like my grandma
(ps she is dead, so thats damn slow).

I live in Taipei and work free lance, so I can go for a ride whenever it is dry.

Know any day trips on the west coast? I live in Changhua near Taichung and I’d love to try out my new motorcycle…but I dont think I’m ready for mountains yet.

To be honest, there is not much to see around there around the coast… although the road follows the coastline, it is nor really scenic, and there is nothing worthy [IMHO] to see, just factories, ports and stuff like that. Unless you go to Lukang. The road is good and safe with a separate lane for scooters, but the constant wind makes it tiring.

just a suggestion, try the provincial highway number 3 [the blue 3] and go north towards Miaoli. not really mountain twisties, but a good ride, very beautiful and most of it is a double lane, so good for bikes. Also have loads of little places to stop and snack or whatever.

Enjoy your new bike!

Is it easy enough for laowai’s to rent bikes for touring outside of Taipei? I ride a 650cc at home and even though I was planning to do most of my travel on buses or train maybe renting a bike would be nice too. Would be great to tour with some of you while I’m on the island. Thanks for any info.
