Motorcycle with aftermarket exhaust - will I be pulled over?

I am buying a second had motorcycle, and it has a after market exhaust attached to it. The exhaust is, well, a bit loud. Is the something cops pull you over for and/or is it legal?

I do not have a license yet, so I rather not be stopped.

You’re worried about having an illegal exhaust but not about not having a license? I would worry about the license for several reasons that might occur.

So, among other things, I am worried about getting pulled over and getting a ticket. If having a loud exhaust will make it significantly more likely to be pulled over I will remove it.

In my experience modded bikes are definitely more likely to be pulled over at checkpoints.

There are noise regulations and they can stop you and insist you change back to standard . Indeed , when you have the yearly test , it must be removed and original used . Unless you get a local to test it :unamused: I would fix the license issue .

Yeah, fixing the licence ASAP. But my one year waiting period for red plate is not up until February :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

Most big bikes are pretty loud anyway. I removed an Italian exhaust from my bike

True, but this one is especially loud which is why I’m asking. It kind of will draw attention to itself

I’m so lucky, I just changed my big bike license for a Taiwanese one. Only some paperwork in the home country.

I theoretically should qualify as well. I got it in hk(which doesn’t qualify) and my home country, but I was unable to locate the required documents that I did X amount of hours of class

Taipei told me that they made an error in my case. The reciprocal agreement only included cars and not motorcycles or scooters and they made an error giving me the scooter license reciprocally. The big bike licence as reciprocal was a huge hell no… Taipei shilin office when i inquired if I could convert to the big bike license. First they said I could with a paper showing I had 25 hrs drivers training from Canada and then finally a refusal.

About the original issue if I was in Kaohsiung I wouldn’t be worried as the cops there don’t seem to be arsed to enforce traffic laws but in Taichung there are cops roaming around with a decibel meter testing scooters. They would probably have an orgasm if they could add a no license ticket to it. The cops here are very ticket happy

Riding unlicensed is extremely stupid if you plan to make Taiwan your long term home.

You are asking for trouble, just wait until you can get the proper license.

I hate to say it and you hate to hear it but better to stay off two wheels in Taiwan if you want to lower your risks.

I listened to you a few years ago and sold mine
Had to find this pic on forumosa…can’t find any pics.

lame.

And that is certainly a possibility if one rides a two wheeler on the wan…become lame (or dead).

I have personally seen way too much carnage on the wan involving two wheelers . But yeah, i can see the pleasure that only a moto / scoot can provide. It’s hella fun…and hella dumb… …hella like flying a sortie in an F16 over Syria, but only more dangerous.

I found that , even riding carefully, the unpredictability of Taiwan roads made it hard work. Add the fact that there was no Freeway use. When you have to ride , expecting that at every junction, someone will pull out in front of you, it takes away the pleasure. Just hardly used it . The good thing is that values remain very stable , so you can buy and sell without losing much money. Reminded me that I still have all the clothing , hardly used !

Even in Europe motorcycle deaths are pretty common.

I think the big difference between western motorcycle deaths and accidents vs Eastern is that in the West people just don’t expect you to be there due to the fact there are much fewer vehicles on two wheels so it’s more careless accidents and omg I didn’t see him types.

In Taiwan it’s a combination of car drivers not giving a crap, they know you’re there but they don’t care because they are bigger and bikes thinking they can weave in and out to get one space ahead of the next guy. Combine both and it’s deadly.

In Canada I’m terrified of the soccer mom in her minivan driving like she is the only car on the road. They honestly don’t look as a bike comes up.
