Mp4 on an mp4 player. No files found. Help

Hey tech-genii,
I’ve been asked to stick some mp4 files onto my sister-in-law’s mp4 player. So far she’s only been using it for mp3, without any problems.

It’s a bit of a no-name player (“Topfox”).

Anyway, I’ve stuck some fies on it in mp4 format, but it keeps saying “No files!” when I go into movie mode. Like I said, mp3s work fine.

For the hell of it, I’ve also tried mpeg (1&2), avi, and even wmv, and I still get the same error.

I’ve tried putting the files on the root directory, and also within a folder I have created and called “movie” (also tried “movies”), with the same (lack of) results.

Anyone got any ideas? I’m stumped (all the files are pretty small, so that shouldn’t be a problem).

This is the wee bugger here: buy.yahoo.com.tw/gdsale/gdsale.asp?gdid=122004

how about,it says MP4 but in fact it’s just an MP3…
like when you buy chicken there, but when you eat it taste like rubber

Actually, I did think about that, but the fact that it’s got a mode called “movie” has backed it up.

The Chinese manuals are here : topfox.com.tw/tw/Egnew/TopFo … ption.html
It seems to be a TF-203, but that doesn’t seem to mention video, Maybe it doesn’t play them, it only says MP4 on the box ? :idunno:
so I looked at the TF-210 manual, that does and seems to use it’s own converter, are you using the software that came with it ? Or download it from that site.

Cheers, Matthew. I actually asked her about the manual and the CD. Of course she’s thrown out the manual, but I told her it may be necessary to use the correct software to upload the video, which you’ve just seconded.
Can you work out which link to download the software?

You will probably be able to upload files yourself (it’s not a fecking facist apple thing), but it will probably want them in a specific format and resolution, hence best to use their converter if there is one. Your thing has a 1.5" screen, so try the 1.6" drivers from topfox.com.tw/tw/Egnew/TopFox/driver.html (filename says 1.5") I don’t think I have winrar installed at the moment to check it what’s in the file.

Spot on. Works a treat. It converts them to “amv” format. I just transferred them to the device manually after that. Actually a cool little player.

Cheers, Matthew.

Can we have a “smug and feeling very pleased with yourself” smilie please ?

How about this one? —> :stuck_out_tongue:

You had the exact same expression last time I met you.

normally these shitty things that say mp4 (which means, it can play a video, low quality ofc) have to go with special codecs.

I have some samples here that where given to me, and before I could upload some pron, sorry, some videos, I had to go find a damn converter. These guys only play ASF format 320*240. You just have the choice to choose high, medium or low quality in the software that comes with. After, you need to send it to a special place inside the memory (mine have camera, so I just figured out where he stored movies and put the videos there). Google for Sunplus PMP Transcoding tool for the software I had to use…

Let me be the very first to solve this for you:

Use their converter. Your thing has a 1.5" screen, so try the 1.6" drivers from http://www.topfox.com.tw/tw/Egnew/TopFox/driver.html (filename says 1.5").

I know it’ll work. You can thank me later.
