Giving up that 3-run homerun is the real problem. The umpire calls being inconsistent and the Ham-fighter defense in disarray was what made the first inning so rough.
Gulin’s right shoulder has this tiny shrug before a breaking ball probably also didn’t help.

He gave up mostly fly balls. That’s bound to happen.
