🚆 MRT Sanying Line

New elevated line like the brown line

I love how it drives so slowly and bypasses population centres.

If you aren’t in Taipei City you don’t deserve good things. I did find that route a bit bizarre but it’s not bizarre if you realise at least of the motivation is to lift property prices for relatively newly developed pieces of land. It may be good for sanxia folks to get onto the Taipei mrt though.

It’s a new tourist train

rode it a few weeks back. As Marco put it, slow, small, not fit for the purpose, only places where it actually makes sense to pass are new Taipei U campus and Yingge TRC station. Everything else performative BS perfectly executed by the usual KMT Intellighenzia of Taipei County. The current terminal station literally in the middle of a road nowhere. Incredible.

Only positive, trains are made in Italy like the ones of the circular line! Hitachi Rail Italy!

Is it of much use for commuters into Taipei?

It would be a great pity if it isn’t because the commuting to and from Sanxia is a bitch. They should have built a line to go along the highway and tunnel through mountains back into Taipei.

I wonder where the rail yard / maintenance area is located for this line? Sometimes an odd terminus can be related to this question.

Guy

Resident Taipei County Commissioner @Marco very well put it again: Far from any actual population centre!

Literally going around where actual people live in Sanxia… The planning to make this route is astonishing.

Haha it makes absolutely no sense for anything except property developers. All the bends must mean it’s slow as f#£*.

not much else otherwise in the deep of Taipei County non-urban areas. Some friend of the Magistrate Hou (will forever refuse to call him a Mayor) must have a dirt field to sell for billions to pay mistresses.

A la Wenhu line unfortunately. At least Wenhu line has the excuse of being the first ever line to be open when cars where the only way to move around.

The KMT has been in charge of Xinbei since forever. A shake-up is long overdue.

We’ll find out in November if voters agree . . .

Guy

I think the other line using Hitachi Italy rolling stock would be a better comparison. It also tends to wind around in slow motion . . .

Guy

True, but infinitely more useful, especially when finally the northern section will bring connection to the area north of Dazhi and onto connecting with the airport mrt. Can’t believe I will be able potentially go to the airport from home without the need to go downtown

I missed this of course as I departed Taiwan over a year back. I was a spectator at Yingge from when they first started digging holes about 10 years back and left just as testing had started. As to a few of the comments :

While it ends ‘in the middle of nowhere’ there is a reason - that is literally at the boundary between Xinbei and Taoyuan County. Taoyuan are currently building their Green line out to Bade, and there will be a two stop extension to link the two.

The Maintenance Yard is between Hengxi (LB04) and Longpu (LB05) - visible on Google Maps.

Sanxia is probably the biggest of the areas served, in particular the area near the University. Yingge has also done well in terms of construction of new housing.

it would be if the station were not far from the actual population centre. The university station is fine, the only one with sense together with Yingge TRC station

So . . . some property development scheme is the priority?

Guy

If you look at the line that’s obvious.. Also the station is way at the back of the uni , the line should have run along daxue road at the front where everybody lives or even through the university .

someone bringing votes must be rewarded I guess. another land billionaire…

Has anyone here actually done any research into the route planning or is this just speculation/bantering?

Perhaps there are good technical/practical reasons for the chosen route?

They couldn’t do this?

Or this?
