In Hsinchu here there is a local uncle who does great deep tissue massages out of his living room for $400/hr that I try to go to once a week

Yeah, that’s an insane price for Taiwan. Maybe in the states you could get away with that (actually there it’d be even more expensive).
Down south, I get a deep tissue massage. It hurts like hell but does loosen me up. With suction included, it’s 1,200 for about an hour and 40 minutes. Without suction, it’s 90 minutes for 1,000. If you’re in a rush, can also get just upper body 30 minutes for 400. Feel like these prices are pretty standard.

I saw these blind masseurs at Banqiao station few months ago, as there was an event to raise awareness to the people with disability.
I think they charge very little and it can help a good cause if you don’t care about getting massage from pretty young girls, especially if you decide to pay the blind masseurs more than the base price (you can it seems).
I forgot where do they usually work, but it should be searchable online.
Oops forgot to follow up – there’s a difference between the affordable massage and premium. She recently got hired by a celebrity that has her follow him to foreign countries as a dedicated massage therapist when touring.
