My first motorcycle

Hi
I’m going to buy a Sanyang Sym 125 this weekend. Pretty beaten up, but cheap. The owner tells me that the neutral light is broken…my friend is telling me that for someone that has no experience with motorcycles, I really need this light. The owner says it’s not so easy to fix…

what do you guys think…?

I think you should call up Jeremy at Bikefarm and make an appointment with him. He’ll look it over and give you an honest appraisal of whether it’s a lemon or not. He’ll also fix anything that needs fixing and even make you a cuppa if you want.

the guy said I can ride it for a month before buying it. Great…so I can take it to the Bikefarm and have it checked out.

imho don’t do it. if it looks beaten up it probably is and will only cause you headache and worse. simple rule is: you get what you pay for. if its cheap than it really is ‘cheap’ and in the end you’ll find yourself paying endless repairs and finally a new bike anyway. i’d buy a new or newer bike instead with warranty and all the no-cost check-ups and trust the new wheels - definately more than questionable used ones.
but that is just me, i’m always a bit more conservative.

I moved to Hsintien, and my 50 cc isnt making it up the hill. Ive already spent 13 000 on it the last 3 years, and its only worth about 6000, so I dont want to spend another cent on it.

This guy is charging me 6000…I have NO money to spend any more on anything…hoping to buy a 125 scooter when I come home from my holidays in March. But I know i will spend about 6 000 in repairs on my scooter till then, and that is money down the drain.

I figure this way I can ride this motorcycle for that time, and resell it later. The engine was redone, and it has a new battery…the reason why its so cheap is because this guy sold it to my sis (they are friends) and she doesn’t ride it often enough, and doesn’t want it anymore.

I checked online and cant find anything 125 for less than 12 000. And I dont have that much money to spend now.

Ride it for a month with no obligation? Perfect. Just remember to call Jeremy in advance – he much prefers it if people make an appointment with him.

Love your avatar! Yes, i will make an appointment:)

Sandy, last time i spoke to Jeremy he said he no longer did other peoples repairs, and gave me another place to visit, is your info up to date.

Abersolutely. Check his Bikefarm thread for details. Once again, please make an appt. first.

[quote=“Battery9”]Hi

In most cases it’s only a simple electrical circut where a pice off the gear mecanism toutch a spring witch close the circut.

Could probartly be fixed by anny hobby mecanic in 10 minutes or so.

thanks Stian…gives me hope:)

6000 for a beater sym legend? why not. If you end up spending 10 on it it will be almost as good as new. I don’t personally like them that much, but the price is right.

Definitely get Jeremy to check it out and give you an honest answer before you hand over much cash, 30 day deal or not.

I just had my first lesson on how to ride a motorcycle! It’s damn scary…so many things to remember…

Only two, actually. Don’t fall over. Don’t hit anything.

join us in taichung first weekend of december for a training. its fun. we’ll all learn from each other there. and we’ll probably find some wheels for you if you don’t want to bring yours.
see ya there?

Thanks for the invite, but no, I get way too freaked out with a lot of ppl around me. I remember when I got my little Sym Dio 50cc I went out riding around Da-an Park at 3am in the morning chanting ‘youre OK youre OK youre OK’

hahah…

i saw you  you did seem ok until that big tree was standing right in your way :help:

anyway, think about it. come on down and take a look, you’ll get a feeling for it and meet other guys who started just the same way. doesn’t hurt to see them riding and chanting ‘i’m ok i’m ok i’m ok’

And pm me if you want to sell it again since I might be interested since I’m tired off this feminine scooter thing.

Haha, what a mission!

So now the bike doesn’t want to start anymore, so I need to kickstart it. And now knowing bikes so well, I’ve stalled it a couple of times at traffic lights. AND it doesn’t have a neutral light, so then I’m there in front of many angry people, trying to change the gear and let go of the clutch so I can see whether it is in neutral or not.

I enjoy it though…it’s damn funny.

EDIT: Mine’s fussy this way also. I yank the plug periodically, clean it and gap it to keep it starting easy. I’ve also replaced the battery and the starter.
