Well, I’ve told a lot of you that know me already, so the rest might as well know too. My s/o of some six years has become a falun gong freak. How strange it is, considering our experiences with their posts and spam back when I moderated here. Recently, she came home to inform me that I was possessed by an animal spirit that was consuming my human essence. She later tried to talk to my supposed demon–as fucked up as that sounds, it’s true. She was told of my possession by some local freak FLG practitioner who had never met me. I’m very surprised that she would go for this kind of crap. She was born and raised in the west and, so, is an FBC and not a local. Needless to say I was stunned by my supposed demon spirit revelation. Mr He and I researched FLG with just some random google searches and I was shocked by what I found–and the sheer amount of it. The spiritual leader of this group believes he can fly and make things disappear. In short, he thinks he’s a god. He also believes in a segregated heaven–one for blacks, whites, Chinese and so on-- but mixed race children have no heaven to go to. Races represent the gods that created them and race mixing is blasphemy. Needless to say, he’s also rampantly anti women’s equality and homophobic in proportions even not seen in conventional religion. I’m not making any of this up.
“Master” Li prophesized that the world was to end in 1999. When it didn’t, he claimed he personally saved it.
Non believers of FLG are often possessed by spirits that control them and consume their essences often to the point where they are no longer human anymore (gee, I guess that’s why the local freak said I was possessed). Leading experts in religious and cultic studies state that FLG has all the defining charactersitics of a cult.
With this information, I confronted my S/O with this info and told her she needs to give up this “faith.” I contacted her family, both here and back in Canada, and they were (and are) alarmed. They wanted me to get her out of here ASAP. She has refused to leave or to give up the FLG bullshit.
This is fairly personal stuff, but I don’t care. It’s no reflection on me, as much as I’ve felt ashamed about everything recently. I don’t care who knows.
However, I’ve decided to take a break from Taiwan and will be heading home fairly quickly. Essentially, this stuff has made me feel the need for a little sanity break and some time among family and friends. I’m looking at a possible return in the new year.
From the amount of times ‘freak’ pops up in your post, I suspect that your inner animal feels threatened. Perhaps, its time to take it out to nature and let it be free for awhile?
Jesus, Stimpy, I’m sorry to hear that. All that crap about FLG being nothing but “breathing exercises and meditation techniques,” eh?
I’d almost be tempted to go to the Post Office and get one of those “letter of intent to sue” thingys and send or give it to the freak, threatening to sue him for defamation.
Once you have established, of course, that the “animal demon” she’s talking about isn’t just the mad Dane.
If you believe FLG, all I am is an animal spirit. My inner animal is a demon that consumed my essence. I want to “bark at the moon” (apologies to Ozzy Ozborne).

Next HH I’ll be sure to bring you some doggie bones…I hear the meditation part of it is suppose to be worthwhile but I generally get kicked out of cults anyway…
Mrs. Dane has complained in the past that I was possessed by an animal. Then I showed her that being possessed by a “rabbit” wasn’t so bad after all…I showed her again, and again, and again. Had a smoke, then again… and barely, again.
Being possessed by an animal plays hell on your lower back, though. :s

Why don’t you? Really freak her out. I hate to say it, but I’d say there’s a good chance she’s going to dump you in any case. Renouncing your old way of life is a pretty standard thing for cultists. I know they spout off about “truth, tolerance and forbearance,” so you’ll soon see just how much of that she really has.

Falun gong is comprised of traditional Qigong breathing exercises, meditation along with the religious aspects. FLG was expelled by the Qigong’s governing body in China and–surprise-- Li Hongzhi has nothing good to say about Qigong masters, calling them false masters. One of her cousins that lives here (Mr He will recall the insurance salesman–tee hee!) tried to get my s/o to reach a compromise where she could practice qigong with a real qigong teacher and meditation but avoid the religion side of FLG. I have no problems with qigong or meditation. This isn’t a problem that has to do with either. Unfortuantely, she wasn’t open to this compromise.
Yes, we tend to consume many “spirits” when we get together. Oddly enough, I asked my s/o how this spirit had supposedly gotten into my body. She replied that her “brother” had told her that these spirits hang out in pubs where the environment “hunli” is bad and get into your body when you go to them. I replied, “Oh, the spirits in the bottles? But I want those in my body!”
Oh man, the truth had to come out here on an internet site.
Mr. He…I sure wish you would have taken my advice about not being possessed by a sheep. If you would have done so, none of this would have never happened.
Unfortunately not, even though her family really wants her to get out of this environment.
Without a doubt. A friend told me once that often the relationships of long termers have “issues” and that the relationship between my s/o and I seemed surprisingly normal. I said recently that I have now officially joined the screwed up relationship club and that I think I qualify for club president.

Don’t be so hard on yourself…To qualify for club president, I think you would have to be beating your SO or having her beat the ‘animal’ out of you to keep the relationship, even though you know it’s not healthy for you. Keep you chin up. It’s gonna work out.
