My Lai massacre murderer died at 80

Its not necessary. But man himself is evil. WE are all able to do evil. Some are able to do greater evil than others. Everyone has their moral compass but good men can do evil deeds and evil men can do good deeds. Deep down though Man is evil.

Man keeps God close but the Devil closer. Because the Devil is more fun.

Man’s evil will eventually do him in. One day we may find that the Devil is not the Devil, the Devil is Man .

When a man does evil he likes to think the devil made him do it to escape the moral judgement. But the devil is man, man may be the devil all along.

I don’t need to. The numbers differ as did the motive.

We’ve gone through this before. Speak for yourself.

Evil is just a word used to describe a bunch of human behaviors that aren’t conducive to maintaining control over a large population of people.

My therapist would say someone who thinks this thinks he is evil.

The numbers differ ,the motive is unclear but what is not unclear is the resultant loss of women and children and how they died. Quite a number of them in the hundreds by most accounts. And there were eye witness accounts by American military personnel who were not involved with the killing whos findings are hushed and kept in the dark. The US govt tried to keep the whole thing under wraps and Nixon pardoned Calley because he knew Calley was NOT the only one responsible , a whole shit bunch of other people including Calleys commanders were responsible, a right mess if word got out. It was not in keeping with what the Uncle Sam was trying to tell the US people. who were already at arms about the whole Vietnam war.

I think it is possible to renounce all violence without qualification. That’s what I do in my mind anyway. I tell myself that all violence is wrong.

I think there will never be world peace because man is inherently evil.
We BAD, Bad to the bone bro. And we like do to BAD. just all different levels of BAD. Theres BAD aand there is BAAAAD.

We just gotten keep all the bADD out of our system best we can because i do believe there is BAD in each one of us. We gots to keep it all under wraps. Hear? Lets not let the devil in us come out on Road Rage and shooting people and all that stuff.

But yeah i think we all are bad and capable of worse, unless we continually strive to be better people and keep the devil at bay.

I hope you remember that if a dog bites you when you’re out running. Or a murder hornet stings you.

Why not renounce dreaming? Or hunger?

Seems to me like they all serve a biological purpose and I am loathe to give away my god given gifts.

You can renounce violence all you want. You’ll just end up making another word for how you act when someone strangles you from behind.

The motive was clear for Hiroshima. Avoiding Operation Downfall. Arguably less so for Gaza. Revenge, perhaps, rather than realpolitik.

To argue that there is no difference between the three is nonsense.

Yeah, I’ve thought through these scenarios, lol. On the violence against other species, I have drawn my loop of concern outside of that: I’m not vegan.

For the self defense, that’s a good one. Given a choice I tell myself that I will always choose the non violent one.

Evil exists on eArth because God has let the Devil run rampant (and gotten very close to man). Evil lurks in every corner in our world.

theres evil among animals too, big evil and little evil.
most animals are having to kill to live and others are born to be killed as prey.
but animals got issues too. on a tiny tiny tiny scale take my three cats.
There is no peace in this tiny world of this house right now among my three cats. Two brothers and one girl. The two bros are at odds with each other. One is very domineering and bosses his ass around. He is scared of the girl cat because she hands him his ass right back. But the little runt of the litter who is no doubt the very sweetest of the three cats is being bullied. And now he has taken to hiding in the guest room 24/7 . And he has his food and his sand box and his water there now. And the door is closed for half the day so he can get out from under the bed and eat and hang out. The girl cat stays with him for part of the day and big daddy stays with him too. But soon as the big cat, the bully comes in to the room he hisses non stop which then sets off the bully and he tries to get under the bed to do WAR.

Even three sibling cats cant get along…in a small house…how is the family of man to always get along…we can’t. The worlds richest man can’t keep a wife running except away. What hope is there for most of us plebs? But hey, we always gotta do our best and keep the ship shipshape and pointing largely hopefully in the right direction.

Ok, tomster checking out …sleep time and then work beckons.

Evil lurks.

What’s after world peace? Solar system peace? Peace on all realms?

Just words.

My Lai was a slaughter. Any worse than Jim Jones’s handiwork? Who knows because we’re not trained to evaluate such horrors. Just clump them together.

As I see it, People who would sit and watch a meteor crashing into earth taking about how pretty heaven will be are evil, right? They’ve given up on civilization— which is the point of all these arbitrary rules and taboos.

I think civilization will be fine for eons to come judging by the number of cowards around bitching about their lives not being authentic and the world being so unfair. No one there to challenge the system.

Best to get smart and escape the gaze of those who want something from you.

Ask your loved ones what they want you to do. Ask the people you are personally responsible for what they hope you would do.

I said hi to the old lady who walks her dogs yesterday morning. One snapped at me and nearly bit my leg going after my shorts as I jogged by. I switched right into violence mode. She threw her walking stick at it. The dog backed down. I left.

Works fine for me. I don’t wanna kill the dog. But now it and granny knows yeah, don’t do that to me. I will respond in kind.

Then I took cute pictures of cats:

I inadvertently - and unintentionally - killed a dog that did that to me once. I was cycling along when I was about 15 and a terrier came out of nowhere biting at my ankles. I kicked it almost as a reflex and it’s head went under the wheel of a car.

Again it’s like ‘given a choice’, I don’t plan on ever making decisions where I wind up intentionally engaging in or condoning violence against a person. Like I wouldn’t elevate any other value above non violence.

I guess people act based on self preservation in certain moments. Not every moment is without choice however.

So you choose civilization. Me too. How about that!

Doesn’t make me believe in god or evil, but it’s better than what barbarians got going.

That’s because you like dogs and they hated VietKong

Not to nitpick, but there is the small matter of the villagers and the insurgence being in their own country. What were the US soldiers doing there in the first place?

There often seems to be pretty explicit dehumanising discourse surrounding acts of violence eh. Part of what makes heinous acts possible. You can see it in things that are said in the news in the context of current conflicts too.

How does that saying go?

Kill a man, you are a murderer. Kill 10,000, make you king.

I forgot how it goes, but the meaning is spot on.

The declaration of independence of the Democratic republic of Vietnam is worth a read. It was - ironically enough - modelled on the US declaration of independence.
