My whole family is nwohr

hello everyone!
just became a member here. and i came across the site because i was searching endlessly for information regarding my options about finally getting a TARC, if possible for my case.
I think from one of the topics i read here. Someone has a similar situation with me.
Anyway, so thats it, my whole family, we are nwohr. In this case, what are my options to get a tarc? is it only the work option?
also, what is that document you guys mentioned that i can apply at TECO? is it a residency cert?
I feel a bit frustrated and disappointed already as i see a slim chance of getting a real citizenship, considering i already have a passport but it i sort of half baked…hahaha

Presented by Talent Taiwan with officials from National Immigration Agency (NIA) and Bureau of Consular Affairs (BOCA), we’ll guide you through the document and processes needed to obtain your passport and citizenship, followed by a Q&A session.

There’s a thread here that may be useful for you:
Do you have any other nationalities?

There is a 100% chance of you gaining household registration.

If neither if your parents has household registration you need to get a TARC (Taiwan Area Resident Certificate) which is residency for Taiwan NWOHR. After having a TARC for 1 year then you can establish household registration.

For most NWOHR there are 3 main options for obtaining a TARC

Work - employer sponsors a work permit which you can use to apply for a TARC

Family - You have relatives in Taiwan with household registration which you can piggyback on to apply for residency.

5 year rule - Live in Taiwan for at least 183 days a year for 5 years. At the end of the 5 years you can apply for a TARC. This is the most troublesome option but if it is the only one, then it’s the only one.
You will need to apply for a UI ID number from NIA if you go for this option which in conjunction with your passport is legally and in theory equivalent in ID to a TARc. However you will find many difficulties in your day to day life particularly at the beginning.
You also will only have the right to work if you do not hold any other citizenships.

TECO - it’s probably preferable to avoid TECO if you can, they suck. But to answer your question you can apply for a TARC at TECO (but they try really hard to refuse) and you could also apply for an entry permit at TECO.

Entry permits aren’t mandatory anymore but it’s unclear if these can be extended and if you’re going for the 5 year option you will want to be able to extend so you can do your visa run every 6 months instead of every 3 months

hi. thanks. feeling a bit hopeful now.
hahahha true about teco. as if they dont know about these stuff when actually the government is the one who issued these type of passport therefore they have to be able to answer queries. funny though, i ask them about TARC and the staff’s answer was, “What’s that?”. are we just imagining TARC , or is there another way to call it, in chinese maybe?
I will try my luck with employment thing. hopefully.
can teco issue a resident cert thing for me? or all has to be done when i arrive there?
have a great day. thanks

台灣地區居留證 - when you apply at TECO it is forwarded to the NIA who approve, then TECO give you a ‘carbon copy’ which is just a printout of your residency approval but they print it on the ‘entey-exit permit’ paper

If you’re going the employment route it will be easier to do everything in Taiwan

Law/regulations TECO/NIA are bound by (much to their disdain) in regards to stay/residency of NWOHR

ok. thanks thanks. need to grab this opportunity to ask questions😃

hey guys. hope you are all doing well.
Anyway, i attended that online Q&A event about moving to taiwan. So i told them about my situation Just as what i shared here. and i was asked about my citizenship and i told them i dont have any other citizenship at all. I am a permanent resident in the Philippines and then i hold this Taiwan passport without household registry. then the immigration representative there just said, oh then you just need to be in Taiwan for 1 year then cna get TARC.
i was like, huh? that is easy if thats the case. Could it be true what that officer said since i dont have any other citizenship. she said my case is special.
Now i dont know where to get a final answer. just got more confuse🫠

Did you get her number???

nope. it was a live online Q&A session. so there was no time for it and they quickly wanted to move to the next question. so i just emailed them using the address they provided on their website. i did email, got a response within a few hours. and the answer they gave is vague.
