hello everyone!
just became a member here. and i came across the site because i was searching endlessly for information regarding my options about finally getting a TARC, if possible for my case.
I think from one of the topics i read here. Someone has a similar situation with me.
Anyway, so thats it, my whole family, we are nwohr. In this case, what are my options to get a tarc? is it only the work option?
also, what is that document you guys mentioned that i can apply at TECO? is it a residency cert?
I feel a bit frustrated and disappointed already as i see a slim chance of getting a real citizenship, considering i already have a passport but it i sort of half baked…hahaha
Presented by Talent Taiwan with officials from National Immigration Agency (NIA) and Bureau of Consular Affairs (BOCA), we’ll guide you through the document and processes needed to obtain your passport and citizenship, followed by a Q&A session.
There’s a thread here that may be useful for you:
Do you have any other nationalities?
There is a 100% chance of you gaining household registration.
If neither if your parents has household registration you need to get a TARC (Taiwan Area Resident Certificate) which is residency for Taiwan NWOHR. After having a TARC for 1 year then you can establish household registration.
For most NWOHR there are 3 main options for obtaining a TARC
Work - employer sponsors a work permit which you can use to apply for a TARC
Family - You have relatives in Taiwan with household registration which you can piggyback on to apply for residency.
5 year rule - Live in Taiwan for at least 183 days a year for 5 years. At the end of the 5 years you can apply for a TARC. This is the most troublesome option but if it is the only one, then it’s the only one.
You will need to apply for a UI ID number from NIA if you go for this option which in conjunction with your passport is legally and in theory equivalent in ID to a TARc. However you will find many difficulties in your day to day life particularly at the beginning.
You also will only have the right to work if you do not hold any other citizenships.
TECO - it’s probably preferable to avoid TECO if you can, they suck. But to answer your question you can apply for a TARC at TECO (but they try really hard to refuse) and you could also apply for an entry permit at TECO.
Entry permits aren’t mandatory anymore but it’s unclear if these can be extended and if you’re going for the 5 year option you will want to be able to extend so you can do your visa run every 6 months instead of every 3 months
hey, super thanks. will definitely attend this. hopefully i can find answers. have a great day!
