Hey, do you like to write? Or do you wish you did? Join us for the craziness that is NaNo, and find 50,000 words in your brain in 30 days. Tell an interesting story, a scary story, or a bad story. Or don’t tell a story at all and just write! You know becoming better at something requires practice; develop a persistant writing habit in November, and meet other people crazy enough to try to write a novel in one month.
October means two things for me: Halloween and notNovemberyet! I love me a midnight kickoff party. We meet somewhere around 11 and hang out, then once the clock strikes midnight we open up our laptops/notebooks and get started with this year’s challenge! If you’re interested in that let me know so I can make sure the venue will meet our needs. Either way, I’ll organise a meet-up for October 30th for us to meet each other and start getting excited. Or scared!

Be the official ML! You’re in Taipei, so planning/hosting events will be a breeze.
I can’t do NaNo (or be an ML) this year – I’m just way too busy. But good luck to everyone who does it. It’s a great experience and a productive use of time.
And, to anyone who is working on a book this year or years past: I am putting together a small card and bookshop (called Letterpressed) in Taichung. Self-published writers are welcome to stock a few books; I’ll sell them on consignment. (I’ll start another post for this…)
I’ll check out venues today for the meetup on the 30th. I got through to Letters and Light; I can order an ML kit!!! (Jenny, I didn’t think about applying to be an ML so I didn’t, and applications are now closed. So unofficial it is! ) So come, get a sticker, eat some food, and talk to people about writing!
(Write the ML leader a note (it’s a new person this year I think). They should be able to grant you access to the ML area of the site. It’ll help for writing notes to everyone who signed up as writing in Taiwan.)

Not having access to ML stuff makes it less likely I can build a good community, and that’s what it’s all about, hey? I hope we can have a publication party, too, sometime next year!! With you!
I can post something more detailed once the wordcount application is up on the site, but no, NOTHING is saved on the website. What you do is paste what you’ve recently written inside the word count application within the NaNo site and it’ll update your account. I’ll post a tutorial as soon as I can (i.e. when I have time and when the application is up). The application only counts your words. You need to use it for the official count. If you are writing by hand it’s a different matter. Let me know if that’s the case and I’ll give you some better help
