Hey guys! Found an old thread with some info on this but really need some current help. I live in Taichung and have only been in Taiwan a month. When I left the US I was delayed by snow and did not get home to pack my longboards (long skateboards with wide trucks). As such, I am here in Taiwan enjoying beautiful weather and unable to skate! I have been looking around online and prices seem extremely high. I am looking for a decent mid sized (34-40 inch) longboard for cruising and commuting here in Taichung. My wife and I will be in Taipei sometime next week and can look around there. Does anyone have any suggestions on where I can find a reasonably priced longboard here in Taiwan? My wife and I will be here at least two years so I am really needing one.
I also have many boards in the US I could possibly have shipped over, but the cost and effort seems really high as I would have to have my Taiwanese mother-in-law take all my boards out of storage, take them apart, pack them up and drop them off at UPS.
Thanks for the input so far! We’re headed to Taipei on Tuesday and will hit up Tiger surf if we don’t find something else before then. We’re definitely feeling the old “we’re not in the US anymore” when it comes to prices though.
My coworker said she thought her son bought his longboard off the Internet and that, yes, they are very expensive here compared to Australia, where he lived for a time.
Well, I got a board from Tiger Surf Shop in Taipei and I’m really happy with it. The price was not bad and I’m loving the quality and they had great service. I definitely recommend them and will be back on the future.
Here’s my new board as of Friday. The streets of Taiwan have been fun already and I expect it to be nice and worn in soon (thrashed in a good way). Thanks to everybody who weighed in!
