Need input: gay foreigners (non-residents) marriage in Taiwan?

Hello everyone!

I’m seeking information about the marriage process for two non-resident *(Filipino) men who wish to get married in Taiwan.

Are there any specific requirements or steps we need to take? Additionally, how long does it generally take from submitting the paperwork to receiving approval for the marriage?

For a bit of background, we’re able to get all necessary documents needed from our country.

Any insights or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

You can do it. However… the Philippines won’t recognize it.

It is no different really from having a “pretend” ceremony in the Philippines.

Sane sex marriage between taiwanese and Chinese is now recognized, but they must marry at a third country that recognizes same sex marriage.

Yes. I understand that it’s not valid in the Philippines. We just both feel like we deserve to be recognized legally regardless of wherever it is. It would also be easier to file our marriage certificate in case same sex civil union finally becomes legal in our country. Thank you for your input!

Oh. That kinda answers the question. Sad but it is what it is…

Really? My understanding was that if both are from a country were same sex marriage is illegal, then Taiwan won’t let you do it. Maybe this is outdated info though.

I thought there was some court battle or something over it. I could be wrong.

Either way the Philippines won’t recognize it and likely never will anyway. The Philippines is super religious and only recently started allowing divorces. (Not because they wanted to… but rather because of the bureaucratic hassles that were happening with the amount of people living divorced lives but being married on paper)

I don’t understand the dumb rule either, it’s likely to stop immigration from southeast Asia.

Why? AFAIK, people getting married here as two non-resident non-nationals wouldn’t afford them any residency/immigration rights. Sometimes it’s better to think before writing. :face_with_peeking_eye:
