I need to be able to transfer my teacher earnings to my student loans from the Canadian government-is there a bank in Taiwan that will connect? Has anyone ever done this?
If you got your student loan monthly payment set up for direct debit from your bank account back in Canada, then it would be a simple matter of going to the Forex department at your Taiwanese bank to wire the money to your Canadian bank account (a fee would be charged to wire money, of course).
That’s how I’m paying my dental school student loan while I’m here in Taiwan. I wire the money from the Cooperative Bank here in Taiwan to my Chase checking account in New York, from which my student loan servicer directly debits my student loan payment. The wire transfer fee from Cooperative Bank costs me $20US each time I do it though, so I do that only if I have a large enough amount to justify the fee.
On my last trip to Vancouver, I noticed they have China Trust branches there now. I’m guessing that their raison d’etre is the ability to transfer quickly and affordably between Canada and Taiwan and the savings that would bring for Taiwanese who live in Canada. Worth looking into.
China Trust has always been expensive for international wire transfers ($900) as opposed to E. Sun ($300). I’d ask around for the cost first.
