Neurolink testimonial

I have had a very weird experience working for Neurolink in Changhua. They were very happy with my progress and I was hiven the green light for no more class observations. After 2 months of putting my back into my job, I got fired for telling a joke in a class of teenagers who were refusing to respond verbally to a Q&A lesson. Two boys were doing all the talking.I was trying to engage three other girl studrnts as well as a very shy boy student. So I thought if I could make them laigh, the barriers to them responding might break down.So I cracked a joke about bringing a doctor into the class to see if he could “feel a pulse” among the students. At my previous school I did the same and they packed up laughing.Well the usual action ensued. The kids complained to.the parents, and the Chinese TA also backed them up.It was a clear misunderstanding of intent.Returning to work the next day, the manager handed me my dismissal letter. No opportunity to explain myself. No effort whatsoever to solve the misunderstanding at all.Appalling employee relations by the manager and absolutlely no initiative in standi.g up for one of her teache6ts and making the students and parents happy by giving me an opportunity to explain myself to them. The hours were good, the rate of pay is good, but the management is totally appalling.Give this school.a wide berth.I had to threaten them to return my original.documents and pay me my money

If your post is indicative of your English skills, I probably wouldn’t want you working for me either.

Ouch! I can’t say I totally disagree, but if he got fired solely for that kinda dumb joke (and there’s not other mitigating factors he isn’t mentioning… which of course is a strong possibility when you’re only getting one side of the story) then that would be a really harsh overreaction. Again, there’s probably more to it though…

Incidentally, there’s a Neurolink across the street from my building. I’m friendly with the western teacher there and he seems quite happy after 3 or 4 years there. :man_shrugging:

To OP, I’d say sarcasm is often the first casualty of the ESL classroom. Use it sparingly or not at all.

He seems to be rage typing. It’s easy to make a bunch of typos when emotionally upset.

I had fat fingers when typing and could not go back to edit my text.My apologies. But this should not detract from the content of the post

Marco, you need a comma after "“skills” and not a period. I would also hesitate to hire if your punctuation is so poor

I thought this is a post about Elon Musk’s Neuralink.

Good job. I’m not teaching though.

“hesitate to hire you” it must read

He’s probably typing on his phone while riding on a bus, which makes perfect grammar really difficult as auto correct (especially for an Android) is fighting you at every turn.

Plus he’s not editing a paper so no use picking on his grammar.

That’s what I thought as well.

There is nothing else from their side.I went home feeling ok without a worry.I didn’t think I had done anything wrong except crack a joke in an attempt to make them laugh. That is all there is to this .story

Maybe get Elon Musk to protest the name, as I’m sure they would have had the name trademarked.

You guys don’t know about the Neurolink buxiban chain? It’s not huge, but definitely mid-size and island-wide afaik.

No. Never heard of it.

Thats just the way things work at buxibans here in Taiwan, unfortunately. Part of the culture. If your account is truly 100% accurate, then the mistake was using sarcasm. I only use it when I am absolutely, truly sure the students understand what sarcasm is and how its used. Otherwise, in my experience, its misunderstood. Probably a cultural thing.
Other advice: teach what sarcasm is before using.
Other advice part 2: dont teach at a buxiban

It wasn’t my grammar at fault, but rather my spelling. I have a problem with my phone keyboard sometimes.

Still, can’t fault someone for having grammar or spelling issues on a forum. It’s really hard to do this on a phone, especially on a bus where the driver loves to pump the accelerator, or step on the gas then slam on the brake.

Especially auto correct tends to work against you. I thought iOS was bad but Android was worse.

I second this.

Well… you guys aren’t missing anything. The one near me replaced an old Shane, and that’s exactly what I’d compare it to.
