The Highways police reporting system does appear to accept the new number format and it does not accept the current format, despite repeated complaints.

Clearly shows how easy it was to “fix” the issue in the first place.

They’ll now need to add a third check for the new format and given how many complaints and how long it took to add the check for the current ARC number we could be waiting a very long time. If even government departments don’t accept official government ID numbers then all is lost!

In response to concerns by foreign residents that many systems will reject any ID number that does not contain a 1 or a 2, the spokesperson reiterated that 37 government agencies will have updated their systems by Jan. 2, but she could not rule out that there may be some technical difficulties in the beginning and that private companies may be slow to update their systems.
