New visa after ARC runs out

Hey there,
I was wondering if anyone has experience getting an internship visa after their ARC runs out.
Last week I went to Immigration and they refused to extend my ARC because I won’t be a student in Taiwan anymore for the period of my internship, so they advised me to apply for a new visa. Now I have been told by someone, that I will be required to reenter the country to use this new visa, which is kinda complicated at the moment…
Does somebody know, if this last information is correct?
Best regards

Did you get a resident visa in Taiwan?

  1. A foreign national’s application for modification of reason(s) for residency pursuant to Paragraph 2 of Article 23 of the Act shall be joining family, employment and investment only. An applicant applying for modification with other reasons for residency (e.g. study or do missionary work) shall first consult and obtain a related residency visa with the Bureau of Consular Affairs of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, then re-apply for an ARC with the NIA.

I have a residence visa that will run out at the end of the month. It is for studying purposes and not for work or internship.

You need to get a new resident visa for the internship, and I don’t think you can get it in Taiwan. In other words, you should leave Taiwan to get the visa. At this moment, I think you cannot enter with a visitor visa for an internship.

You may ask to BOCA for more certain information.

Do you know if internship and work are considered differently? Shouldn’t I be able to change the purpose of my residency?

If your employer gets your work permit, you can change the purpose of your residency.
