New Youtube Series - "WHO SPEAKS THE BEST MANDARIN IN TAIWAN"

i think they’re just non-native speakers. i didnt see any ABT/ABC on there.

yea i have no idea who he is. i just like language input.

Hmm, doesn’t even sound like a real contest. Wonder if it’s rigged.

i noticed they focused on the 2 Japanese idol group members alot, and they’ll probably do well. which made me think its rigged a bit so that the pretty contestants do well in the beginning so viewers get attached.

listen, if he holds this again in the future, i’ll sign up and see if its rigged, trust :salute:

Judging from the intro, one of those definitely had the best Mandarin.

Would ABT/ABC’s, by their very definition, be native speakers?! Would a whitey born and raised in Taiwan, attending Taiwanese public schools be eligible to take part? Sticking a Japanese girl in there as a “外國人” is probably already breaking some of the locals.

Youtubers, local or foreign have terrible track records on local media, like actual TV shows. At most they become a recurring guest with a whole bunch of other youtubers, but they rarely break out and become a host. At least I can’t think of a single example.

From what I read, actual TV people look down on internet celebrities, kind of like how Hollywood movie stars used to think TV shows and TV stars are beneath them.

A few months back, LifeinTaiwan was asking for foreigners to participate for a Chinese competition. I remember seeing it on instagram; sounded like anyone could join if they were interested.

Youtube advertising might even pay more than stingey local TV studios, so maybe they’re happy staying put.

Ku was also advertising this contest in some foreigner Facebook groups.

Well thats not what i said. I said they aim at a local audience and style.. because thats what works.

There aint no abroad in japan style youtubers in Taiwan because they wouldn’t have an audience. Taiwan gives gold cards to youtubers for making tourism videos which are 100% in chinese and watched 100 by locals.

And it makes sense a TV celeb would look down on a youtuber, its 100% deserved they are talentless brats and are now almost at the same level of popularity

I think the majority of youtuber’s income is from sponsorships.

I was asked if I’d be interested in taking part by a number of local friends. I said absolutely not, I’m not a performing monkey.
