I didn’t find the last two very funny either. 
Not the same thing at all. China threatens to invade all the time. The missing US hiker and the mother/daughter didn’t.
Most of the foreign news at the moment seems to be speculation about when China will invade, which is (apparently) inevitable and imminent.
The whole taiwannews is funny. Taipei times is much better

Yes, but stories like this I find funny as what did this guy expect going to the mainland thinking HK & Taiwan should be not part of China
To be honest I’m not even sure if I understand the OP. @tango42 what do you mean? that the style in which news are reported in Taiwan is getting weirder? that the style is amusing? both? or that the news are amusing? or that the news are weird? Because I looked at those headlines and I really couldn’t make up my mind as for what you were talking about.
