I first noticed this back when there was extended coverage of the Chinese Earthquake, but the sappy, quaint music used on News programs here is abominable.
Since when do I need the incidental music to Titanic to tell me to feel upset?
Speaking to some local colleagues they seemed to be of the opinion that if it’s sad, you play sad music. I told them that News is purely (or at least should be) purely objectional. Once they try to influence my response, it no longer becomes news.
It really sickens me. I know the quality and integrity of the ENG is shot to pieces here already but fucking news soundtracks? Are we really that stupid we don’t know how to respond to weeping mothers at an earthquake scene?
