Was curious as to how many of us have taken the step and gone ‘next gen’ or plan to when the PS3 comes out next month (its so close now…!)
I imported a Japanese 360 last year because once again, Australia got shafted and the local release was pushed back (again). It basically happens with all our console releases down here, and this time I just could not wait that long… Especially when the Jap 360 was much cheaper, and the asia region games cost half the local price too! Win/win and it hasnt died (yet)
I think my favorite game so far has been ‘Saints Row’. I like it so much that I am pacing myself to make it last as long as possible Im not a huge fan of the GTA series, and this is a complete ripoff (albeit with next gen graphics/physics etc). I probably put in a few hours of each GTA game, but for some reason I cant get enough of Saints Row. Highly recommended. Mitownkid, if you dont have this game yet, why not dude? You would love the ‘bling’ factor
Its been a great first year for the 360 IMHO. GRAW, Dead Rising, Chromehounds, Enchant Arm (RPG), PGR3, Kameo… Im pretty happy with it so far.
Now for some Taiwan-centric questions…
Is the 360 selling well in Taiwan? I remember in 2003 that most people were not into the xbox1 at all. Most people showed interest if I gave them a demo of halo etc… But back then it was all PS2, baby!! Regardless of the easily modded xbox…
How much does the 360 cost in Taiwan? Also - how much do you guys pay for games there?
Is anyone buying a PS3 next month? I really think its going to be a huge shit-fight in Japan on launch day. I mean, SONY have only allocated 100 thousand units for the whole frickin country?? Thats crazytown… Im not holding out much hope of buying one, but heres hoping
How about the Wii? Is there any buzz in Taiwan yet? Im guessing the hello kitty demographic may buy into the ipod styling and ‘wacky’ controller… But maybe piracy has a big part to play in a consoles popularity in Taiwan Not much different to Australia then !

Truant - why did you decide on PS3 instead of the xbox 360? Is it the perceived increase in power of PS3? Or maybe its the more familiar ‘Playstation’ name?
Im going to get them all, but Im curious to find out the opinon of ‘non hardcore’ gamers

So has the X-Box 360 gone down in price at all yet? i want to buy one but not sure of the game selection in Taiwan as well as the region code issues. If I do buy one in Taiwan, can I buy American games and play them on it?
I bought a Jap 360 back when I lived in Australia, and have had no problems getting games. Japan and Taiwan/Asia share the same region code.
You can either buy the games locally (much cheaper than USA/Europe) and a lot of the big USA and European releases have been region free anyhow. The latest region free blockbuster is ‘Call of Duty 3’

COD2 is brilliant but COD3 has a different developer. From what I have heard its still getting good reviews and looks very nice. Will try and grab it tomorrow too

And… I won’t be getting a PS3 for a long time. Not until MGS4 is out at least. I don’t know of any other games I’d want for it. Plus, I barely have enough time to rock out my Xbox properly. I’m definitely getting a Wii (it’s my favorite of the three and it aint even out yet.) Why cluttered things up with a “third wheel” system
Gears of War is out, but was sold out at the store I go to. He’ll call me when it comes in. He said COD 3 is out Nov. 17th. And the Wii is out Dec. 2nd or 3rd.
I’ll be getting phone calls to confirm all of these. I’ll probably go ahead and pick up a Wii straight away. I think I’ll just have to learn Japanese to avoid all the region lock garbage.

Went to that mall in your blog - it was geek heaven! Thanks for the info dude. Bought the Gears of War collectors edition (at a fraction of the price back home) and also got an xboxlive headset. Hopefully we can jump online and play some co-op (I hear its frickin AWESOME!)

My friends house in Taichung had 240V power outlets for their aircon, so back in 2003 I plugged my original xbox into that and it worked fine. No such luck at the place Im staying in here

The guys in the shop today said that COD3 is out tomorrow here? Dunno how accurate that is… Everyone I asked about the ps3 said ‘Dont bother… Its too expensive and there are no good games for it’. Prices ranged from exorbitant to ridiculous… So screw the PS3… for now anyhow…
Will do the next time I boot it up (it’s been getting dusty with lack of good gaming.) The guy at my store told me early December for the Wii, but whenever they get it is good enough for me. I’m in no super rush. I think I’ll be out of town that weekend anyway.
