Can you guys tell me whether the Galaxy s2 has NFC or not? I am looking at buying one in the middle of this month.

appearantly the “first gen” galaxy 2 doesn’t have a nfc chip build-in but the LTE version has a faster cpu and nfc built in, so if u going to buy in Taiwan you probably won’t have nfc.
It’s possible that it can be upgraded, as the antenna is in the battery, but it’s not clear if the phone has it or not and even so, I don’t think anyone in Taiwan supports NFC through your phone, yet.

Was thinking it would be nice to have cos i am sure pretty soon nfc will be all over Taiwan.
Oh well, if i can upgrade it, that will be cool, if not, oh well, next phone then…

ah thats it! They using a cover. Well I can tell you its working, as I said a lady just did in front of me but with an HTC. So there will probably a Samsung solution as well
Many HTC phones have the technology built in already so they don’t require a cover, such as the iphone, so it may be that you witnessed a coverless HTC operation.

About the iphone covers, i have also seen them, but i must say i have never seen one for the s2. One of my colleagues has an htc phone, she has that easycard feature on her phone.

You have well noticed. However a friend have the same HTC I guess. (Don’t remember the name) and it as just a small Easy card under the cover of the battery.
I remember he told me that this feature has convinced him to buy this model (Which was the only one to do so according to him)
HTC does NOT put NFC in their phones, at least not yet and the model with the slot for the easy card was an entry level model which is crap imho.
Maybe its not nfc but it is something similar,
The model i am talking about that my friend has is a htc incredible s, wouldn’t call that entrylevel. She has the easycard icon for payments on her phone.

If so, then that’s specific to the Taiwanese version, as it’s not part of the specs if you look at any of HTC’s international websites.

my bad… 2009’s HTC Tattoo didn’t have NFC but it did have an EasyCard chip built into the cover, thus giving it near-NFC capabilities.
