i stumbled down an alley in that area a couple weeks ago. had a bunch of indonesian restaurants. guess i finally know why theres always a bunch of indonesians hanging around taipei main station.
About Mayor Ko and the attention his administration has paid to western parts of Taipei (the renovated North Gate area, etc): how about finally cleaning up the fiasco “planning” around the Zhongxiao West Road side of Taipei Main Station? Countless obtrusive and confusing entrances to the malls below and no way to cross the road at street level all the way from Zhongshan South Road to the narrow crossing at the Shinkong Mitsukoshi department store…
If they could clean up the Beimen area (and make it look great!), they could clean this up too. Come on, Mayor Ko, make Taipei even nicer! : D

A nice design touch I hadn’t noticed until today at the Danshui waterfront: the railing has “twisted” bars for a pattern, which we’ve all seen before. But I hadn’t realized they’re twisted to form a pattern matching the silhouette of Guanyinshan in the background.
Has anyone ever tried to throw afternoon small concert type events there? I always thought it would be a good spot for small park concerts…
That would be pretty cool. Outside of festivals, do they do anything like that here?
they are making a new building in that area i thought? so it should be getting some sort of a make over… i don’t see the road splitting that area in two getting sorted out though, they should do. its the main problem.
I dont know but always wondered that. We used to rent generators and do shows with old soul and reggae music on the beach in Tainan, they went well but not sure how TPE is with permits and stuff… I’ve never seen it done in a park but someone should try it, lots of foot traffic there. It might get an eclectic crowd to say the least.
Ah, the long-delayed and scandal-ridden Twin Towers project! That was the signature development immediately west of Taipei Main Station that ensnared members of the Hau Lung-pin city government (and a former attorney of Ma Ying-jeou!) in a corruption scandal. Some details here:
