🦠 🇮🇳 Nipah Virus Outbreak Triggers Asia Airport Screenings

Travelers be aware, Nipah has a high death range – ranging from 40% to 75% – as there is no vaccine or medicine to treat it.

That sounds so familiar, didn’t we have that recently?!

Seems like the R0 is pretty low at least.

Less than 1! Specifically 0.2-0.8 in its current form. Let’s hope it doesn’t mutate.

Fingers crossed. Usually high lethality but low transmission rate means the spread would die off soon.

Oh man, don’t give Taiwanese an excuse to cling to their masks for another year. Taiwanese love looking for reasons to wear masks. :face_with_medical_mask:

If someone would invent simple or sophisticated permanent masks people would wear like glasses or contact lenses, there could be a huge market for that, l think.

Well… there already kinda are. They’re just not popular here. But don’t give them any ideas lol.

Hazmat suit

How about this design? You could barely see the full face mask. I’m sure it’s 10 times more uncomfortable.

I would add a feature that can blur the mouth part of the mask for those who wear it in public because they are shy.

For people who are shy

Look at the bright side. If a new, “highly lethal” virus breaks out you can prove once and for all that facemasks and vaccines are useless against viruses and natural immunity is the way to go.

scary shit , much worse than covid. If it becomes world wide it could make covid like a rehearsal for the real bad boy.

lets hope not

What a bizarre statement! Are you familiar with the measles virus? Probably one of the best examples of what happens when people use TikTok as a source of information and stop vaccinating their kids against it.

Or are you thinking of antibiotics?

I think an important distinction is if the virus is a respiratory virus or not.

Outside of the zoonotic factor, it is primarily spread by close contact with bodily fluids and contaminated food.

It’s not like a new virus, there have been outbreaks before with no major consequences globally as I understand.

Also, it seems contained

Hurr hurr good one.

But I’m not an anti-vaxxer. I had my Moderna shots and booster. I wore a mask during those tumultuous days of 2020-2021… I mean, sure, it was also mandatory, but anyway. I even got into it with notorious REAL anti-vaxxer @finley numerous times in those old COVID threads.

No, I’m just a normal person. If the masks were necessary to stop COVID when it was a deadly and uncertain disease, they’ve certainly outlived their usefulness a full 6+ years after the pandemic kicked off and at least 4 years after the rest of the world moved on. Are you still masking? Maybe you should move on too? :man_shrugging:

I think people are now masking to not get the flu, because they think it helps against air pollution, or they don’t like to show their face for whatever reason. Covid, is that still a thing?

They also cite protection from UV rays in the summer, protection from the cold wind in the winter… and my favorite, protection from people seeing what they really look like when they forget to apply their makeup.

This one I understand. It worked like a scarf.
