Novel coronavirus cases reignite SARS fears - the epidemic mess foretold

I wish the word “tested” weren’t being thrown around so casually in the press. What do they mean? The detailed antigen / antibody (?) biological virus test? Or just a scan with the near-useless “gun” thermometers? Or the lung scans that I guess are the main diagnostic tool in China now? My understanding is the proper testing is a complex process that takes a while, and that being regularly tested on board simply isn’t possible. Ships don’t have the equipment to do that, do they?

On the case in Malaysia: my suspicion is it’s either a false positive, OR the virus is already everywhere and the cases that have presented are just the tip of the iceberg. That ship had been at sea a long while, had no history with any cases, and had reached a stage of being one of the safest places to avoid the darn virus. (Even if ships are, and always have been, a Petri dish of other bugs.)
