Some of the photos are funny but bothers me and maybe I’ve missed some news, but where is the growing call to collect masks and send them to China, which rises from most disasters?
Yes, if Taiwan is making 4 million masks per day, they should be sending some of them to China. They’re needed a lot more there.
Another one if folks aren’t convinced yet .
This advice isn’t good, common sense is that when you have a serious risk of a devastating epidemic everybody should be wearing them , at least in public spaces such as public transport, for instance particularly now when travellers came back from China.
You would also need eye protection if those people in the sneezing videos were to sneeze on you.
4 million mask a day that need changing daily, 23 million people, that’s still a big shortfall if they become compulsory in public.
Will you deliver them to Wuhan personally?
And a 0.2% death rate outside Hubei.
Okay I will spell it out for people since they are common sense challenged.
It’s a matter of Mathematics.
Your chance of infection is the X (the transmissability of active viral particles and their longevity from the individual who is infected ) x Y (ability to be infected of a new person by the viral particles) .
If the virus currently has say, a 2.2 factor where 1 person infects 2.2 people it spreads very quickly, exponentially.
What do you? You need to cut the rate to under 1 transmission per person so it dies out…
You don’t need a perfect barrier or solution to do that. You just need to get the transmission rate down below 1 per person …
You do that by reducing the probability of both X and Y. I’m guessing X is VASTLY reduced as long as the majority of the population are wearing masks.
Taiwan is ramping up production to 7 million masks per day soon. We need most of them here for the next couples of months at least.
Official government advice is don’t wear masks unless you’re sick, I doubt there are 4 million sick people in Taiwan. There are also 10 cases here, thousands over there. Makes sense to help prevent spread of virus where it’s actually coming from. If I cut my finger I don’t put a plaster on my knee.
Someone tell Google Streetview, quick! Unless that’s BS, which it is.
Any corporation or public office can restrict photography on its premises, it has that right. But once you’re outside of their property they can’t touch you. They can yell at you of course, but they have no right to keep you from recording. Nobody’s put much effort into instill the details of the law into lower-level enforcement officials.
Whether it’s somehow morally wrong, as some have debated here, is another issue altogether, and can’t be proven either way; you have to decide if you’re comfortable with it. In any case, knocking a phone out of someone’s hand or otherwise physically assaulting them is decidedly illegal no matter what your feelings on the matter are.
The problem is the symptoms don’t start showing for at least a week after you have been infected.
Yes, if you’re sneezing wear a mask. If not, don’t. It is simple.
It’s not so much of a problem, WHO says you’re unlikely to infect someone during the incubation period.
Sure, except there are people who spray when they talk. Also, an infected person could spread it when kissing or having sex. (Not that a mask would help when having sex LOL)
It’s not that simple. It’s better that everybody wears masks.
Why ? We can use our own thinking faculty to figure it out instead of parroting others.
One person sneezing could fill a whole train compartment with infectious droplets. Does a person always know when they are about to sneeze ? Can they control the urge ? Do they even care?
Should we take that risk at this time when people are coming back from China. Or should we cut down both X and Y as I described above.
Which strategy is smarter for the general population?
China bullies us on the world stage constantly by preventing our participation in many international organizations such as WHO. They demand that we participate in the Olympics as Chinese Taipei. They demand that airlines refer to us as Province of China. They have a few hundred missles pointed at us. They are demanding unification, by force if necessary.
Now they need our help? I say fuck ‘em! Taiwanese for Taiwan!
But would you have a plaster ready, if doing something dangerous, incase you need it?
Also where is that mighty Chinese production capability?
is it so dependant on Taiwan?
I will willingly send a few boxes over myself after Xi asks Taiwan personally for help, i even think the Taiwan government would help then too.
