Office Hours - What's Normal?

Hello everyone, I’m a newbie teacher that’s been thinking of going to Taiwan for a long time. Since I have no real plans for next year I’ve been researching the idea more intensely. I would like to know more about the office hours that teachers are required to put in when working in Taiwan. I read online (on here I think) that they can be taken out of your contract if you ask, but what is the norm? Do most teachers have office hours and how many? Or is it something only newbies get tricked into doing? Is it ok to ask for their removal and if it is, how would I go about doing it? 23 Teaching hours and 10 office hours - I think that would make me underpaid if I work out the hourly rate, which is why I started this thread :neutral:

Even without the office hours, you would still be making less than $600/hr. With the office hours it is laughably bad… :thumbsdown: These are the jobs that newbies take because they don’t know any better.

Thanks, I figured as much. I wouldn’t mind the job if I could get it without the office hours - maybe I’ll tell them that and see if it gets me anywhere lol.
