Officers in Afghanistan allowed young boys to be sodomized

thestar.com/News/World/article/553770

I have never been so sick after reading an article as after this one.

How could officers be told that Sodomy on youngt boys should be tolerated because of “cultural differences”? i believe in multiculturalism but what the hell is going on?

World court inquiry sought in Afghan rapes

Former soldier Tyrel Braaten says some
Canadian officers turned a blind eye to the sexual abuses of boys by Afghan interpreters at his base

The International Criminal Court should probe allegations some Canadian officers serving in Afghanistan told subordinates to look the other way when Afghan soldiers and local interpreters sodomized young boys, says one of Canada’s leading human-rights lawyers.

In a story published yesterday in the Star, former Canadian soldier Tyrel Braaten said that during his tour of duty in Afghanistan in 2006, he witnessed Afghan interpreters bringing young boys inside buildings at Forward Operating Base Wilson, a remote Canadian base outside Kandahar. The boys were then sodomized by the interpreters and Afghan soldiers, Braaten said.

Other Canadian soldiers have complained to chaplains and military medical personnel that officers told them not to get involved because the sodomy was tantamount to “cultural differences.”

If the allegations are true, Byers said, they will reflect more poorly on the Canadian military than the scandal in the 1993 in Somalia when Canadian soldiers tortured and murdered a Somali teenager who snuck into a Canadian base.

anyway, I am totally ill and I do not think Afghanistan deserves any help from anyone, especially after reading this:

"“It’s common knowledge that young boys are used in this way in Afghanistan,” said Brad Adams, executive director of the Asia division of Human Rights Watch. “It’s the great dichotomy of Afghanistan. Homosexuality is treated as a cardinal sin, but it’s still common for men to have sex with boys.”
INSTITUTIONALIZED RAPE OF YOUNG BOYS?
Sorry for the all caps but I am really going to vomit and this timer I mean it.

A woman for procreation, a boy for pleasure and a watermelon for ecstacy. Or is that a Turkish thing?

More a Bangkok thing.

Sounds like the British Navy.

Welcome to War.

Ginger man, I know, but tell me this: Whatever were trying to accomplish in Afghanistan, wouldn’t it be accomplished faster if we killed all of the men and gave the country to the women and children? How could it be worse than it is now?

I’m sorry bu8t it bears repeating:

I don’t know why but this story just gets to me more than any other.

We can’t afford to give the country to the women and kids. We’d have to go to a total war footing, invading Pakistan, Turkmen, Tajik, maybe Uzbek, and eventually Iran. There’s quite a few chaps over there that believe that girls must be kept ignorant & servile.

We can no longer accomplish much, except for getting our soldiers killed, maimed, or fucked up mentally from the shit they have seen go down. Small scale expeditionary wars can bear no real fruit for a middle power like Canada.

The sooner we get out of there, the better. Let the Americans take over the whole fucking show, if that’s what they need/want. NATO should get the hell out. Put the resources into some endeavor with more tangible results.

Also, the name of this thread needs to be changed. 'Officers.... allowed'.
It does not compute.

I have a question for you. How reliable is the Toronto Star? I haven’t seen this story picked up by any other major news outlet yet. The other websites that have picked it up (thanks to a google search) all seem to be anti-war sites. They also ripped the entire article from the Star, word for word.

It is my bias, but I hope to god that this turns out to be a fabrication. That kind of act against children, whether or not it is a prevalent cultural act, turns my stomach too. While they may not be able to stop it completely, standing by and allowing it to occur on a military base is something entirely different.

Reliable? That’s a four letter word in this instance.

It’s not a fabrication, it’s hackneyed hand-me down hearsay.
When one is fighting in this kind of war, as yet another in a long series of foreign invaders, one does well to turn a blind eye to the indiscretions of one’s so-called allies. Throughout the history of warfare, one side or another has traded off information and ground-level knowledge for letting the erstwhile allies indulge in local practices.
Power comes from the barrel of a weapon. We gave these brutes weapons, cash and protection. Who are we to whinge and moan when they use such implements to commit evil?

Another reason why should we be out.

As long as Europe gets its heroin from Afghanistan, who will give a damn. :frowning:

You just don’t understand Afghan culture.
