Old School Country Songs

Hank’s first big hit. 1947.

Guitar Hero 6. 2010.

The Hillbilly Shakespeare (Hank Williams) via the Fab Four:
I’m tired of this dirty, old city:
Entirely too much work, and never enough play.
And I’m tired of these dirty, old sidewalks;
Think I’ll walk off my steady job today.
Great tunes, Charlie Jack.

Though Buck Owens should get the credit for making Act Naturally a hit. He recorded it first, over a decade after Hank passed away.

Hard to believe Hank Williams only lived to be 29 years old. He looks so old in the pictures you see. I guess that comes from hitting the bottle while you are still a teen and never slowing down.

There’s some good stuff here. Here’s another.

The self-proclaimed (3:05) “perfect country and western song,” as performed by David Allan Coe.

Artist: Joe Maphis
Track: Dim Lights, Thick Smoke

Most assuredly am I in the mood for for some Kris:
And in that frame of mind, I do well appreciate CNY, when one can turn it up to 11.9!

Why don’t you just go fishing

Good Hard Dog

Nice Ones, CP!
Always like a bit of Dusty.
Say, wasn’t he from New Zealand?!
:ohreally: :sunglasses:

I’ve had this song stuck in my head for decades. couldn’t hear it enough as a kid. Love the American history angle of some country music.

Made me cry a lot as a kid.

A true pioneer. He still looks pretty good.

You’ll have to cast something better than a raw prawn for me to rise to the bait.

Bin bingin’ on Johnny Cash for coupla weeks, and I am saved, brother.

Taking in the Waylon Jennings mix on YouTube tonight.

Which led to this.

and this.

June was the prettiest, I guess that’s why her sisters told her she couldn’t sing.

Autoharp. A new word for me.

I also didn’t know that Reese Witherspoon did all the vocals in the Walk the Line movie. She is quite good.

I enjoyed that movie. June and Johnny are the Anthony and Cleopatra of country music.
Late in the evening about sundown,
High on the hill and above the town,
Uncle Pen played the fiddle, Lord, how it would ring!
You could hear it talk, you could hear it sing.

Strawberries, cherries, and an angel’s kiss in spring,
My summer wine is really made from all these things.
Take off your silver spurs and help me pass the time,
And I will give to you summer wine.
I think this is more old school style than actually from years gone past. Anyway, it’s a good one.
